I am in the middle of revamping my website and I am seeing a bunch of psd templates out there.
Can someone please explain that to me. It has been ages since I have done a website from a template. I always had done them from scratch. What is the psd file for? I see mostly a collection of layers on these psd files.

You create the psd file for the looks really. Just like you would create a banner in PS here you create the whole site then break it up in slices. So a site could have more than one image. Only problem I see with it is people go buck wild with it and it slows the site down. To make up for DL time they slice it into a billion jpegs but the site is still slow. If you use a psd template make sure you keep it simple and keep your slices as low quality as you can to help with downloading on the other end.
