Step 1) Wild Enthusiasm= A thread is started about a up comming challenge.

Step 2) Disillusionment= Questions are asked and everyone has an opinion.

Step3) Panic= Who, what, where, when, and why are out of the question. The question that remains then is "Which".

Step4) Search for the Guilty= The challenge has started, and the trolls emerge.

Step5) Punish the innocent= Since the trolls can not be found, a shotgun effect of low scores are given to all.

Step 6) Reward the non Involved= "Who was that masked man?"

Man, I hate it when that happens. ;-)

I'm looking for trolls about now. Well, anyone will do. Got a comment 'she doesn't look happy' - um, wtf has that to do with anything? If the subject isn't smiling the image is no good?

Small minds beget small scores.

I just HATE it when that happens; I've gotten my fair share of comments on the apparent state-of-mind of my models... Like, WTF is going on? Do you think I don't KNOW that? Did it not occur to you maybe this is what I *wanted* to depict? Sigh...

Sounds like a case of Step 5.

I want to put in I have at times made odd comments like that, but that is sometimes something that effects how a person feels about a shot. It's not just a technical vote for me, but a "how does it make you feel" picture.

I would rather get a "she doesn't look happy" because it tells me if the person understood what I was going for or not, than get a "nice shot" because that tells me nothing.

Very good point there. 'She doesn't look too happy' is not necessarily the same as 'The model doesn't look too happy and therefore I have given you a low score'. It could be a quick fire first impression reaction. By and large those reactions are a good thing, at least because it enables people to be making comments when they don't (feel they) have time or expertise to make more analytical reviews.

The guidelines with regard to commenting on the picture and not the model ad hominem apply, naturally.

Just a thought - it may be worth suffering the odd comment that gets your back up rather than not getting any comments at all.
