Really, really disappointed, I thought this shot would do well. I want to learn, but without comments it's hard to know what I've done wrong :-( I used to be a dressage judge, for any score lower than a 6 a comment was compulsory, I wish it was the same for photography too.

I took this great vacation with my camera in hand. Sorted through hundreds of photos. Picked the best 7 and PP'ed to perfection. Made a great Power Point presentation to my local photo club showing the best 7. Gots lots of great feedback and then submitted the one that I loved and was well recieved by most the the club members....

Bobnospun, Don't let the DPC voters get you down. You probably learned a lot and had fun, right? DPC can help you learn, but sometimes you enter a photo that you love and the DPC voters just hate it. It doesn't mean it isn't a great photo! DPC is a tough place to figure out and it can get very frustrating at times. Keep up the good work!

Oh, and I am sitting at about 5.00. Horrible! Calibrating my monitor will be on the top of my list before I enter another photo at DPC. :B

To all new DPCers... One fact you have to know and live with: There are photographers all over the world, and there are photographers in DPC. This is a whole different world who likes (check the previous winners) kind of photos. Rest doesn't matter :)

Sharp, simple, plain and clear photos (aka eye candies), no matter what your subjects are (this rules are broken from time to time, but not often)

I'd like to offer a challenge - for those of you who aren't exactly in the 7+ club, make it a goal to comment on at least 50 entries in this challenge. And make those 50 entries those that are NOT getting your top votes (they'll get plenty of comments, in general). Take some time to look at the shots you hit "5" and normally move on (or whatever your "eh" number may be) and try to see WHY you gave it a 5 and wanted to move on. Then POLITELY put that into words and leave a comment. After you go through and do this, look at your own shot again. See if maybe some of those reasons apply. I plan to do this.

For those in the 7+ club, I'm sure some of the mid-range scorers (you can pretty much tell which images they are) would love a bit of advice or encouragement as to how to move on to that next step.

It's easy to leave comments on the great shots.
