I tried shooting raw and jpeg on my 40D. Took the files to a friend with Photoshop. Photoshop CS3 doesn't see them. So the next time I was over, I brought along my Canon disk that came with the camera. It installed a utility that can transfer the files to Photoshop. When they go, the go as TIFF files, and look worse that the jpegs out of the camera. They do not seem to be as sharp, and do seem to have more noise.

Are we doing something wrong? Is there a plugin someplace on the Canon disk to allow us to import directly? Before I scrape up a bunch of money to buy Photoshop for me, I want to make sure it will work.

I figure it has to be us. I can't see Canon making something that won't work well with Photoshop.

Update the RAW converter and it will work fine.

Adobe Updates - ACR ver 4.5 released 7/29/08

Or when CS3 is open, select UPDATES from the menu and it will do the install automatically: Select Help > Updates.
