I run an image thru NeatImage and it improves it a lot. When I want to save it into a Jpeg, it looks bad (banding). Even with a 100% (best quality rate) Jpeg... I have to use the noisy pic if I want it in JPG because the clean one looks so bad (but is perfect BEFORE saved in JPEG). I really don't understand and I played for a long time with JPG so i know what I'm doing. Anyone got a suggestion? |

Are you using the demo version of NeatImage? That version only allows saving at a really low quality setting.

Yes. But I don't think that's my problem. I did a snapshot of my NeatImage screen and this one is perfect. I save it in Bitmap in another software: still perfect. I reopen that Bitmap: still perfect. But when I make a jpeg out of it, ugly. I really don't understand. |

OK, I see you refer to bancing. Could be that the Neatimage has been applied to the point that there is VERY smooth gradation of color that is becoming banded when compressed. Try reducing the settings on Neatimage so that some small amount of noise remains, and see if that helps.
Also, if you're taking a snapshot of the screen, make sure your display settings are 24-bit color or better.

If you have Photoshop CS then use the 16bit editing mode - it will almost certainly eradicate any banding. You can then convert the image to an 8bit JPEG after editing. Does NeatImage support 16bit images? |

Yes, but only the pro version. Both the demo and the home don't, which is too bad, 'cos I'm thinking of getting the home version.
Great programme, though.
