There was one company that made such printers, good for decals and the like where you need to print white. I believe their name was Alps, but are out of business last I heard. //www.jcrocket.com/alpsdecals.shtml is some info for ya.

I have not experienced anything even remotely resembling your description using the Epson Pro 3800. I don't use it every day... some times I'll go a week or more without printing anything at all. And I consider this printer fairly miserly with ink.
It's not one of the "big boys" (4800, 7800, 9800 series). But it works great for prints up to 16x24" in size.

Mine ate ink due to the constant cleaning that needed to be done before printing anything. Perhaps you live someplace humid or something. I hear the bigger ones are better than the little ones, but that could be for a lot reasons. I've never heard of any other brand having this issue.
Just google 'epson clog' and you'll get all kinds of info like //www.2manuals.com/fix_clog.php
Paragraph number 2 - No CLogs - referring to a canon vs epson //www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/printers/canon-5000-terms.shtml
Perhaps the newer epsons are better. Mine was tossed - literally in the trash - about 18 months ago. It was maybe 6 months old.

Yeah, unfortunately, rather than naming the specific models with the problems, the article appears to smear the entire Epson line with the same brush.
I do know that the 3800 has brand new print head technology. I don't know if that's the reason for the difference, because prior to this printer I had never owned an Epson and had never heard of the issues.
I went looking through the online material about the printer and did manage to find this:
Automatic print head alignment and cleaning technology
* Built-in sensor reads printed data for highly precise alignment of all color channels
* Built-in sensor analyzes a printed nozzle check pattern and automatically cleans the print head if any problems are found - even partially clogged nozzles

I have the R1800 and have not had any issues. Did the auto nozzle check/head clean thing once in two months. I don't print every day or every few days for that matter.

I dont really want to start any wars, but recently I purchased an Epson 2400. Except for the price of the inks, I'm very happy with the Epson so far. However I keep reading articles on how great the Canon i9000 is. I have Canon equipment so I'm wondering if maybe the Canon printer might have been a better match for my Canon Camera.
I also heard that HP printers are pretty good. Before the Epson I purchased a cheapo HP printer to print documents with. Tell you the truth for the money that HP printer can also print some pretty good photo's as well as documents.
I know these cheapo printers have a short life span but so far I'm really impressed by what this little printer can do. The only thing it comes with this software package that constantly runs in the background.

I got the Epson Stylus photo R1900..... come on, please show me the Canon in the same range that can do the same, not even considering better. I did my home work, and I am very happy with the quality of this toy. |
