I'm probably going to rot in hell for saying this but I didn't think much of those photos. A couple were interesting but my first thought was I wonder what one of my favorite DPC photographers would do with those subjects and came to the conclusion they would do better. That said, I do know you don't have much time to shoot those people so you need to know what you want to do well in advance and be able to execute right away so it isn't easy.
ETA: Actually there are a few more I like. The first few that come up are not the better ones, IMO.

Now that you mention it.. they are pretty straight forward photos.
Ones that stand out for me, Ozzy, LL Cool J, Prince, Oscar De La hoya.. and some others.
Seems you may be right about not having much time with these people. It seems the non-movie guys (musicians and others) he was able to spend more time with, therefore, better results. |

I agree, the Steve Martin one is hilarious and it is so typically him too which is what I also love about his work. I am actually trying to incorporate this into my weddings :D |

Man, I must be so out of the loop - there were only a few of those people that I recognised. The guy who was on Frasier, that talk show host with the huge chin, Prince (though he doesn't have a name, of course), Barry Manilow, a tiger, a cat and a dead mouse, and possibly Courtney Cox. The guy with the cigar might be Harry whats-his-name, who does a lot of voice-work on The Simpsons. (I'm referring to the Jeff Katz gallery).
Oh, and Cindy Crawford, because of her mole.

For me the Jeff Katz shots are pretty humdrum; they have face recognition going for them and not a whole lot else. The Sam Jones shots are spectacularly good, warm and human and (often) amusing as hell. Dan Winters is extremely accomplished, exceptionally skilled, but I like the intimacy of the Sam Jones work.

Yeah, but you didn't have to endure the music. |

Remember the George Carlin riff? "The radio comes with TWO knobs: one to change the station, one to turn it off..." So you can just MUTE the danged thing and live in my blissful world, eh?
Options are wonderful...

Most of the appeal to celebrity shots is based on who the subject is, not really the photography. Try to look at those sots and imagine them with an unknown person as the subject. Do they still have the same appeal? In many cases, it would reduce the image to a pedestrian snapshot. |

Check out Portfolio "I"
Scroll to the bottom... stop 3 up and look on the left :)
