I'm going with my first prime for portratiture only. I'll be shooting mostly in a small studio and sometimes remote locations. Which should i go with 1st?

Small studio = 50mm

David,

I'll concur with Scott. The 85mm (which is a BRILLIANT lens), doesn't allow you to get very close to your subject at all. If you want to do indoor work with your XT and you want head and shoulder shots, I'd go 50mm.

spacewise the 85 is kinda pushing it. But i can definitely accomodate the 50mm. The 28mm is a bit wide i think.

On a 1.6 crop camera, the 28mm is the closest thing to a "normal" lens. Another choice would be the 35mm f2 or the Sigma 30mm f1.4

I do most of my shooting with the 28mm.

Will start with the 50mm 1.4 and make either the 28mm 1.4 or 85mm 1.8 my nxt choice.

actually I have to differ... the #1 lens I use is my 85mm F1.8

I had a 50 F1.4 and sold it... (Had both lenses)

I say get a 28mm and an 85mm

but its all about what you shooting and preference
