That figures. We bought a new office chair yesterday, and as I was dismantling the box for recycling, I wondered if the Cardboard Box Challenge would be happening anytime soon...

"Honey, why are you photographing the empty moving boxes...?"

Or maybe there is no "honey."

Too bad I didn't save the box my monopod arrived in last week. Clearly labelled "B&H Photo" all over the box and the UPS guy threw it into my garage (I heard the clank as it landed). Nice-sized dent next to one of the labels which I'm sure you all would have appreciated! Good thing it wasn't glass, huh? Sheesh.

Honey thinks I am crazy. But actually finds my quest for challenges especially the random quite amusing. I'll just tell her I am doing it for science and the good of mankind. :P

Do you think it would be DNMC if the cardboard box isn't brown?

"Take an ordinary cardboard box in any size and use it to come up with a creative image."

Is corrugated cardboard ordinary?
Or are we talking about something like a gift box?

What about writing on the box? Is it still ordinary then?

If the box is on its side, is that DNMC? What if the box is in landscape orientation but the picture is in portrait orientation?

"... in any size!"

I think the size will do the difference I ll shoot a really big one! That may help a lot!

Box. Carboard. One or more. Creative.
07/21/2008 03:35:48 PM · #15
But do you actually have to TAKE the box, and does it matter where you take it? Or can you just randomly come across one and use that? Perhaps I'll find a random box and take it on the train to somewhere. Can we do an entire photo essay?

:-)

Challenge description sounds like a composed, studio shot is expected, but I see lots of empty cardboard boxes in interesting scenarios (while I am) just walking around the city. Will they do?

I have a really scruffy looking vagabond here with a wrinkled, wizened face that just begs for some heavy dodge and burn. If someone can contribute a suitable cardboard box, we can split the ribbon. PM if interested. Canon shooters only.

I can't believe that no one is [clears throat] "thinking outside the box."

Marcus: "I spy with my little eye, something starting with B."

Franklin: "Boxes."

Marcus: "Right. I spy with my little eye, something starting with M."

Franklin: "More boxes."

Marcus: "Two in a row!"

Franklin: "And that's when I shot him, your honor."

Marcus: "I spy with my little eye, something starting with E."

Franklin: "I give up."

Marcus: "Aaah, come on."

Franklin: "This better not be what--"

Franklin and Marcus: "Even more boxes!"

She's probably out buying a giant sized bowl of milk to drop a box in...
