I just alphabetized the sign up list in the original post to make it easier to read. I think I got everybody, but take a look when you get a chance to make sure I didn't leave you out.

lol -- we're up to 86 at last count; maybe we can hit 100. We're still smaller than Scott's Free Study marathon, so I got no complaints! |

You're all in trouble. My two current entries are nicely dragging my average down before we begin.
One tricky point: when do you declare the average you have to beat? Each time you beat your average, it climbs. For someone with only a few challenges, it could climb quite a bit across the tournament and also even a decent amount during a single challenge.
I see several options:
1) Throughout the tournament, you have the same target: your average as it is at rollover this coming Sunday. That'd involve recording one number for each participant. A lot of work, but only one time.
2) Each week, you have to beat whatever your average was when the week began Sunday (or another day if you've so declared for that week). This would be a major effort for someone every week.
3) Each week, you have to beat your average as it ends up at the end of the challenge. Again, a major effort every week. Depending on what your entries are doing in non-tourney challenges, it's possible for a photo to beat the average you had at the beginning of the week but be lower than what it is at the end of the week.
Note that timing matters for both 2 and 3, because our averages are constantly changing every time we get a vote on either tourney or non-tourney entries. So it'd be best to get someone to write a script to sweep up the averages as soon as possible whenever you decide is the appropriate moment.

I had actually thought about this too. My plan was to use the average as of Monday morning, and then update that each week as we go along. So, yeah, the challenge gets harder and harder the longer it goes, because the survivors have a slightly higher hill to climb each time.
(I thought about using the Weds. morning average to get a snapshot of the average after the scores are all in for the prior week, but then I remembered that the averages are constantly updated during voting, so figured Monday morning was as good a snapshot as any.)
If anyone knows how to create a script to pull the averages let me know. Otherwise, I was going to do it manually (even got my spreadsheet all set up!). I figure it will be a pain for the first week or two, but I expect there will be a pretty significant reduction in the number of survivors after then.
oh, and btw, my recipe score is tanking too. Unfortunately, my anything but landscape is pulling my average right back up! |

Just a thought Dennis but don't spend too much time on the first weeks stats cos you'll probably find half of us will go out lol.
And did I miss your answer to the FS Q from Robt?

I agree there is likely to be a significant fall off after the first couple weeks, which is why I'm not too worried about the amount of work here. Here's the answer re the FSs

Yes -- subject to rule 3 -- i.e., so long as you either post a message to the thread ahead of any other entries you make that week saying "don't count these, wait for my FS entry," or the FS is the only entry you have for that week.
I'll post a reminder in the thread and update the OP when it comes up. |

Oh, Please let me play, too.
Now that my recipe shot (which I though was great) is scoring so poorly (seriously - 4.3) I have an average that is lower than about 2/3 of my shots! I'll probably still be out the first week. lol
ETA - I also think that whiterook will run away w/ this.

Haha, I'd much rather see him try and get something LOWER than this average. Now there's a challenge.
ETA - actually, his average is a surprisingly high 4.1... Never mind.

I'd like to join too! I'd been lagging in the challenges lately, so this would be a good way to force me to enter at least one a week!
Fear my 5.62 average! |

Count me in too. I like this one a week better than one a day, plus it is more of a personal challenge. |
