I may be interested. What flavor is it?
Bummer about the lens : P
Shoot some pics of it in there, for the food challenge.

Of course! The lens is the main ingredient for the recipe:-)
K, joking aside sorry to hear about the mishap - can it be salvaged? |

Oh, it cleaned up fine, at least so far. I actually chuckled when it happened. I really need to invest in a tripod with a horizontal bar so I can shoot straight down, instead of tipping my tripod over and leaning it on the table to the point the feet slide out and the camera crashes down.
And yes, I then went back and got the shot.
But maybe "camera surprise" shot with my P&S would've been a better entry! :)
The worst thing is that it broke a off a piece of glass from the food container, ruining what would've been a tasty treat after shooting.

That's good news. I hope that it does not bind up later, and that no food got inside the focus or zoom rings.

I am astonished that a photographer of your caliber .... I guess I am lucky I did not need my polarizer for the food shot - it will drop out of its ring at the most unpredictable times - or should I say not at all unpredictable, as when I am leaning over a rushing stream with rocks and sharp sand. |

Well, first, thanks for even starting a sentence by implying I'm a photographer of some decently high caliber. Most of my recent entries wouldn't support that supposition. :)
But I'm really curious what astonished you. That I dropped the camera? Don't own a high-end tripod? Am willing to laugh at myself? What?

Hehe, when I was shooting my photo for A Single Line I was using wet instant coffee to junk up my mothers hand and at one point a glob fell right on the top of my D300... thankfully a damp cloth fixed it right up, phew...

...just as a side note, don't spill your beverage on your lens either.
I was at my friend's house doing a photoshoot last week and I had my camera around my neck and was REALLY thirsty. So I went in her kitchen and grabbed the first glass I saw in the cabinet and got a glass of water, I took a big gulp and water went EVERYWHERE. On me, on my BRAND NEW CAMERA, and all over the floor. So of course I took out the battery, card, and lens out at lightning speed and grabbed about 100 paper towels and was so busy sucking the water out of my camera that I didn't realize my tongue was bleeding until a minute later. I still hadn't figured out what had happened until I tasted the blood and saw the glass had a big piece of glass missing from the side. Yeah I almost killed my friend, but she said she didn't know it was broken, and I believe her, but still! Camera is fine and tongue is healed, but just make sure you are super careful when you have your camera around your neck...scary.

Oh, I was seriously laughing. I do all kinds of stupid things with my tripod - it is such a maddening logical device working so differently from the way we move and contort ourselves to get a shot, but I figure I'm the only one stupid enough not to realize this, and a nasty little voice in my head is always telling me, 'A REAL photographer wouldn't do what you just did.' What I like about this place IS that 'real' photographers are capable of anything. |
