If enough other users report an e-mail as spam, then all e-mails from that sender will be considered spam for all users. With political mailing lists, it is not uncommon for 'friends' to enter someone else's e-mail so they can 'see the light'. The end result is typically a spam report.
If a Democrat read below:
So apparently, there must be more conservatives signing up their liberal friends' e-mail addresses than vice-versa.
If a Republican read below:
So apparently, democrats are more liable to click an opposing e-mail as spam rather than try to understand differing viewpoints. |

If you had proof that someone at Cox was deliberately triggering the spam filter for McCain messages, THEN you have a news story on your hand. Now you just have an e-mail filter that's filtering something you don't want filtered. As mentioned before, this happens ALL the time. Hardly newsworthy. |

maybe the campaign is making the emails in a way that the SPAM filter is flagging them... too many pictures or links or something. Cox is run by a bunch of Republicans, I doubt they are blocking his emails. Its funny how people will make a conspiracy theory out of anything.

Come on man....my subscribed McCain email gets blocked by a major supplier of internet service but my subscribed Obama email gets through....that is newsworthy.

Wow, this is the silliest thing I ever heard. First, I work for a newspaper in a small conservative town, and trust me, we wouldnt even touch this story. Its got corny conspiracy theory written all over it. Second, it does depend on how many people flag something. Yes, sucks if you fall into the minority and you don't get these emails, but you'd probably also be complaining if you were to recieve 100 spam messages a day regarding where to properly place your newley oversized anatomical parts- so you also have to appreciate those people who do the flagging. Third, there are certain formats that emails can be created in that are automatically picked up by spam filters. Granted, McCain's tech camp should be aware of these, but maybe Cox has stricter guidelines than most and the McCain camp figures that the benifits of getting a certain format out to some outweigh the benifit of getting a different format out to even more. |

I didn't say anything about "his opinion". I remarked on the intelligent reply he made...I didn't say he couldn't make it!

So it's silly that a major provider of internet service is blocking one candidates email and not the other? I didn't accuse them of purposly doing it. I said someone (a pion maybe) at Cox may be playing "God". I want it corrected.
This is the age of the internet. Both candidates message should get out to all subscribers.
I subscribe to Hillery, Obama, McCain and some other lesser known candidates.
I want to receive them all from my provider !
Cox should make sure that McCain emails get to the subscribers just as all others do.
You simply can not argue that my OP is flawed because I want the mail I subscribed to.

kind of an insult to call me brainwashed, as you dont know me, or who i am. let alone what i stand for, or my beleifs. i enjoy my 1st ammendment as much as the next guy. so maybe it is you who is brainwashed, sir. into conservative beliefs, and maybe its just more parraoia for your party's sake...but ill let you sit on your high horse as i dont want to get into a debate at this time...

I usually don't jump into political thread (a no win situation) but I do feel like some action needs to be taken to make sure BOTH candidates emails get to whom ever sign up for them. Personally I don't like either candidate but what is one to do but find as much about each of them so they can cast a vote that in their opinion is the best for the people of our nation.
Lets all face it the President of the United States does not have the power we want to believe he has. Congress, The Senate, and The Supreme Justices has 95% of the power in the US. And since the last mid-term election Congress approval rating among Americans is at 9%... |

How do you know where I stand? I want ALL candidates email ! I want all that I subscribed to! I want every update from Obama and McCain.
Again...I didn't once say you shouldn't express your opinion...I commented on the way you chimed in.
In the future it would help your opinion if you didn't plunge in to an intelligent thread using the "F" word.....but I bet you won't take the advice !
Please re-read your original post. It is the first and only "insulting" post in this whole thread.

Serious question: Do you honestly think there is a person(s) that COX employs, sitting at some workstation in cyberspace going through the millions of emails that transpire every day checking off: yep spam, nope not spam, yep definately spam, eh this one might be spam....?? |

Good question......I'm aware that the screening process is done by machine. But it does not look good when some candidates mail gets through and others don't.
I'm sure there is a way that one person can tag an email "source" as spam.
I'll wait till Cox answers and let you know the results.
Thanks for the reply.

kenskid, prior to one of your past messages to me being edited, you actually wrote "hey bozo" to me..... and you havent said anything offensive or rude.... whoa, you're making a great case for yourself. Way to edit what you origionally said to TRY to make yourself look like the bigger person..... Hypocrat immediately comes to mind.
Again people, certain emails are set up with formats that catch spam blockers. If McCains emails are sent that way and get blocked, its his camps fault and they should change it. Even if the formats look the same, if Obamas are formatted differently, then his wont catch the spam blocker... This really is probably a problem with McCains email formats. |

I realized that Bozo was not a good choice and I edited it out. Sorry.

On a serious note...can you explain what the difference in email format could cause a "spam" tag? I'd like to learn about it.
I could send you a copy of both candidates emails if you need it.

Oh my God !
Like I said in my OP "First...please do not turn this into a McCain VS Obama thread!"
With the entry of your last post I am requesting that this thread be put in the the Rant section by Site Counsel.
I'll post the Cox reply when I receive it. If this thread is in the Rant section, I'll post it there .
***Site Counsel...please move this thread to the Rant...it is turning into an Obama VS. McCain thread and is getting away from my original post.****
Thanks

A quick search of my spam e-mails on gmail shows no emails with McCain and 3 with Obama.
Apparently Obama:
1. shows his larger than life manhood
2. found dead in shock accident
3.grows great length through herbal supplements
Also here's a short article about e-mail censorship.
//email.about.com/cs/whitelistingemail/a/isp_censorship.htm
From a legal standpoint I'm not sure where this falls. From a business standpoint it would be quite unethical for someone to purposely censor what e-mail somebody gets. |
