The answer was yes. BUT you have to send it to the SC board to get a positive or negative answer |

It says "OR minor misalignment". Barrel and pincushion distortions can be corrected in advance. That has been confirmed by the SC before on many occassions. The only issue is it needs to be done to correct perspective not create an effect (ex. making something that looks like a fisheye shot when it wasn't originally). |
I understand what your saying, I'm just saying that if you go to far it's a DQ. |
Perhaps. Although, I haven't seen a shot get DQed for correcting perspective too much in advance. Have you seen one? I'm pretty sure I've seen validated shots that were defished (without adding new detail). If so you can't get any more extreme than fixing fisheye.

So PlaywithFire should play it safe and ask the SC? Shouldn't he be required to change his name for that???

I heard back from SC

Looks like it's OK for me to clean that out. |

Hehehehe, no offense to the SC but I can see this being borderline. On one hand it is not dust, on the other hand it is in the same position and place as dust would be. To me, removal should be allowed, however it does not strictly match the rule. Therefore I think the rule should be changed to include dust, hairs, and OIL if on the sensor. :) |

Yanko is correct about the hair being sensor dust (and thus OK to clone out), and mostly correct about distortion. Vignettes and distortion are both specifically listed in the rules as illegal in Basic. You can add vignettes and correct distortion in Advanced. You cannot "fix" distortion from a fisheye lens though... that type of lens is supposed to produce severe distortion, so removing it wouldn't be correcting a lens defect. |

Bingo. If it's on the sensor, then it's a defect that can be removed in Basic. If it's on the lens (a scratch or water drops, for example), then it's not sensor dust and has to stay. |
