Most of you all know me, and know that I am house bound, most of the time now. I feel I have some excellent images in my DPC portfolio. I also have DPC prints for sale here.
Sherpet's DPC Prints
I do ok with some of these, especially my agaves and flower images. I feel I have some excellent images, and often many people say I should have them for
sale.
I also have an account at betterphotos
Many say they look like Georgie O'Keefe, and I like to some available as prints, and also on canvas, and available for sale, in gift or interior home decor shops.
I was considering getting a 'web' site, but having NO experience in going this, and I would have to pay for someone to set this up for me. Would it be worth it.
Should I have my images available in web site, or with an Advertising agencies, that deals with photos and canvas prints.
If so, which would be the BEST ones to deal with.
Would smugmug or pbase be a good place to have my images available for sale.
If so, which would be best. Is there any other place to have a look at, remembering that I live in Australia, and also not that technical, easy to use, and unable to set up a web site on my own.
Any suggestion and ideas would be gratefully accepted, and I thank you for your time.
I really would like to have some of my work available for sale, while I can do it, as I am running out of time. My body is now at the stage, that I may not be able to get out at all, to take my favorite passion, and that is photography.
I really want to do this while I can. Can you HELP me please

Hi Shez,
Heading to bed but saw your post and had an idea. (my one for the day) ;)
I think your agave shots would do very well in upper tier salons, spas, and health clubs. They look so 'green' and healthy, like something that would make you feel great! I don't know how close you are to a large city but maybe contact some of the 'slick' looking establishments and get a portfolio in their hands, plus a large canvas or two. NOt only might they purchase them, but they could also sell to their clients. A bunch of people go through a hair salon each day, mostly just sitting their and looking at whatever is in front of them.
I'm not in the hair/day spa business but I think it is a niche market that might be available. And, no reason you couldn't go worldwide if your art was wall recieved. (misspelling intended ;)) |

I saw your post but I'm EST and headed to bed (it's 2:04 AM on 7/9 here) ... I'm going to think on this a bit .. I design sites when feeling motivated and might be able to help. I am going to do a bit of research and get back to this thread. Keep in mind that there are LOTS of people out there with cameras now (thanks to the lower costs of them) and it might be a bit challenging to get sales going. Your photos are beautiful but so are thousands of others anymore (I'm trying to keep this down to earth and real). I'll PM you once I am done researching what I can do for you :)

Sherpet you might find RedBubble worth a look. It's an aussie site, people can order your prints straight from RB and they're also trialling us each having our own website type space seperate from but linked to the Bubble...for free, and people can buy the prints from there. That's still in Beta testing but it's coming. Sales generally are not huge but if you're looking for a place to print your works easily to put up in your local business it is easy. |

very interesting that you bring this up. just tonight i was thinking the same thing for myself and started a search online for info that might help. i found this site and have been going through it. I haven't read that much but there looks like some helpful stuff here. it's a blog geared for earning money with your photography. i'm not sure if it's realistic and specific enough but it gets your head spinning in the right direction. interestingly enough the current post on the site fits nicely with this weeks challenge topic. i hope this helps. let me know if you find anything really good on that sight. pm me a link or something. |

Hi Shez - I know I've had some communication with you about this before - I don't know about selling prints, many others would be better advisors in that realm. In my opinion you might do well selling your images on products like stationery and other things. I've sold things on Cafe press as have zillions of people - the quality of some of their products is not great and you have to mark up the prices a bit to make it worth it, but it's cheap and easy to setup a shop and start selling. More importantly, you need to market and get the word out - something you need to do no matter what route you go. Fortunately you have a huge fan club here to help with that. I think if you got popular enough and made enough money on something like Cafe Press, you could then find cheaper suppliers and get your own site built - if necessary.
If anyone knows of a better alternative to Cafe Press for making some money from images (including, but not limited to selling prints), post here - I'd be interested as well.
Good luck, Shez! |

I opened a SquareSpace site last week (here). And have been very happy with it so far. You can try it free for 15 days and see if you like it. They don't print for you, which is what your looking for? But it's easy enough to link your PayPal account to it if you print yourself (in case you were looking into that option). |
