Just noticing the Rural Landscape winners, the top 2 have these amazing relections in water...how do you get this effect?
My reflections are usually dull. |

| Flat water. No wind blowing. Usually small inland bodies of water will have less ripples as well. |

Or a long exposure, at least at night. In this shot, the river was covered in ripples, but they average out and disappear in a 30-second shot:
I think it's often best early in the morning or just before dusk, when the wind tends to die down.

You know, I think those new wind farms could be a source of truly perpetual power if they'd just lay out beds with a variety of flowers and post a big sign "Photographers Welcome!"
If I see a flower, and so much as take off the lens cap, you can be sure something more than a gentle zephyr but less than a medium gale is only moments away ... :-(
