But, again, people are missing the point here at DPC, and just don't get the punch line.

Why do we have to have ANY violence in our entertainment?

Because like love, hate and everything else, it's part of human nature. It is the one most important fact that led us to where we are today, all of us, everywhere, throughout time. Asking to ban it is like asking to remove all mention of trees in a book about forests.

The smell! They say our sense of smell is what helps us recover memories best. I found my old cap gun and it had some caps and I fired it and POP, first thing I noticed was the smell, then the memories came flooding back of my childhood. cool stuff

Not only did we play with toy guns when I was growing up but one of my friends had one of these MP40, which we used to take out and play with. Of course it was made safe so no ammo could be used, his father 'liberated' it during WW2. As a 8-9 year old it was pretty heavy.

There is a big difference in a toy gun and a replica gun

If my 14 year-old kid is running down a city street chasing someone with a real-looking toy gun I'm not sure if I can blame a police officer for being nervous and possibly intervening.

Not sure how I feel about banning the things though. I always liked toys that were realistic.

Yeah that was great, I used to just skip the gun and get a hammer and start smacking the caps against the ground, so much fun! The good ole days....

My brother and I had one of these [thumb]M1A1[/thumb]. My dads office had been part of the National Guard Armory in the 50's. When I was about 5 or 6 they were clearing out the old storage units in the basement and found one, as well as a couple of M1 carbines. Dad wouldn't let us have the carbines, but we got to play with the bazooka- no rounds for it however.

It didn't make me violent in the slightest. Althought I do spend alot of time on this website

Hmmm. I don't think it's toy guns, or even real guns, that cause the problem. I had toy guns when I was a kid, lots of them, and I used to play "Army" , "Cops and Robbers", "Cowboys and Indians" etc. Later on, I got real guns, starting with my dad taking me to the range and letting me shoot the .22 rifle he had when he was a boy. A while later, he bought me my own rifle. Since then, I've had pistols, shotguns and bigger rifles too. I enjoy shooting them.

I've never gone on a shooting spree, never robbed a convenience store/bank, never carjacked anyone and never committed any violent crime. I'm a gun owner, not a criminal.

It's the person who does those things, not the weapon in their hand.

As far as banning toy guns, I think it's silly, kids have been playing with toy guns ever since one kid picked up a stick, pointed it at another kid and said, "Bang! Bang!". Maybe sticks should be banned next.

What the heck - ban children! Then we won't have to worry about the whole toy gun issue. :-)

They already banned fireworks around here, you should se how effective that is.......

Might as well ban fingers too.

My nephew was not only suspended from school for this exact thing, but they also called the POLICE in! What idiots. He was homeschooled from then on.

Oh, gawd, yes! Happiest day of my youth (up to that point) was when I got my very own cap gun. Used all my allowance buying caps for it at the corner store :-) The smell was wonderful, yes indeedy...

Oh yeah, unrolling the caps and then BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!

I had black metal, single action revolver that looked just like the one Marshall Dillon had on gunsmoke. You could even hold the trigger down and "fan" the hammer to get rapid fire.

I'm also pretty sure I wasn't the only kid who took a whole roll of caps and hit it as hard as I could with a hammer to get a bigger bang.

And, yeah, the smell.

My all time fav toy gun was my Winchester rifle, it even came with dummy ammo. I loved that Rifle. I also remember the smell of the cap guns, used the roll for my Colts and single ones for my twin barrel pirates pistol. Many was the day that I and the Lone Ranger saw off a bunch of baddies ! Happy days !

That smell was just great!! We used to take the whole roll and whack it with a hammer - got a bigger bang. The other cool thing was to put it on your nail and flick concrete (like marbles)... I have not seen them forever but if they do sell them, I bet they are not the same... they used to get flames a lot.

I remember two different kinds of caps, one was the red paper roll and then the other was a circular plastic ring with ten or so caps, it would fit right into the cylinder of the gun. Anybody up for a game of cops and robbers?:)

O.K., so now how many of you wild cap-blasters have turned into hardened gun-toting anti-social knuckle-dragging hell-raising YAY-Hoos? C'mon, fess up!

We all had toy guns when we were kids, and played war or cowboys a lot. But we also played baseball, football, chess, board games...anything kids do, including fighting each other just 'cuz. As late teenagers my friends and I decided we would get into hunting a little, so we all had shotguns, even a few had rifles, one or two guys had pistols. Somehow we never shot each other...ever. After shooting my second rabbit, I decided I didn't really think hunting was much what I wanted to do, and haven't shot at anything since. I don't object to hunting or shooting. Just don't care for it. Some of my friends still hunt occasionally. One guy became a sherrif's deputy, and last I heard had shot somebody in the line of duty and likely saved an innocent life in the process. But none of us, nobody we knew, nor any relatives, ever became killers from playing with guns. Antisocial behavior is going to come out with whatever weapon is available.

One last thought: anybody who leave firearms where children or un-trained persons have access ought to be whipped in the public square.

There were also the single shot plastic caps that came on a little plastic part tree of ten. I remember I had a Luger P08 and Colt 1911. It was hard to win a gunfight with the kids that had the strings of paper caps.

*Shoot* reload, and in the mean time get shot like 20 times.

edit to add---- caps caps and more caps
