OK, Good morning.

Was up to 6.1 after that 10 at 0143 server time, but the eastern hemisphere has chimed in and I'm at a more normal 5.5 after 45 votes. There's always the positive note that I'm improving my average!

Woulda been really good to be able to sharpen my image a lot more, but was impossible to do and keep file size under limit. Lesson is - keep highly detailed images out of basic challenges.

Food images - Hmmm. My friend, Tim ( rasai), always takes pics of what I cook. Now, I'm looking through those for a good idea. I'm too frugal to not eat the food, so I have to shoot and eat!

Now, that's a pleasant thought...

We have a taunter. Maybe I should go to the other groups and taunt - that might make me feel better. :op

I have a bone to pick with you and that Redhead who came into our lounge with whiterook wearing nothing but a thong. You should not abuse us like that. :P

Steve, you mention not being to stay within the file size - are you saving using a "save for web" feature? That'll strip embedded information not needed for display, and you can usually play with the percentage a bit to reduce the final size.

Yes, using PS (6) "Save for Web", which has previously been good. I usually SFW to 120k to 140k (depending on image), then I sharpen the 640 DPC image, using USM or Focus Magic. The current image would increase to over 200K when starting with a 90K image.
I tried several settings in SFW and USM, but always ended up with an oversize file.
Since this particular image has lotsa details, I feel I must conclude that it doesn't reduce well, or I'm not using an appropriate tool.

Try sharpening the larger image before you save for web, then it may need only a small tweak after, which shouldn't increase the size as much. But I do know what you mean. I had an image that increased a LOT when I sharpened the 640 pixel size. That will indeed happen in shots with a lot of detail.

the tutorial on here works great for me, sharpen, then size down, then use unsharp mask from 0-50, hardly makes a difference in the size.

I agree with H on some of his email, simple and clean, but what we also have to remember that this is about recipes, so keep that in mind.

H, I am goign to take out half of the ingredients in my shot so it is cleaner and less cluttered, but i still want to go down that line of thinking there. Will mock up today on that!!

How is everyone else doing??

I haven't had time to shoot - work has been way busy (new guy coming in/old guy heading out, dignitaries coming for the festivities) and may or may not get time this weekend (Saturday is already full, Sunday may end up being another busy day as well). But I'll keep thinking of things, and hopefully be able to at least try something!

My shot is now the lowest I've ever been. Don't only the top five scores count though?

Send to me, please.

Juliet, sent you an email about your shot. :-) And I have something rather, umm, out of the box. I know, I know - but hey, sometimes I think voters need a break from all that beautiful perfect eye candy, you know? Anyway, I'll do a quick workup and send it to just a couple of you for comment to get an initial reading.
