I'm pleased that I finally broke the 6 mark, but just wondering why this didn't do better in the urban landscape challenge.
IMO there seems to be a few images that were more architecture than urban landscape. |

I think what hurt your score was that it was a bit dark IMO |

I think the challenge description opened up interpretation of the challenge
"Of, relating to, or located in a city. " It seems to infer that taking a picture of buildings inside the city qualifies for this challenge.
Related to your image - it is a nice cityscape - the waterfall in front is unique, the blue sky and gold lights are attractive on the eyes, but it lacks a little something. Maybe it is the lights are a bit soft and nebulous (the sharp stars for lights in an image such as [thumb]hotpasta[/thumb]'s top 10 image comes to mind). Maybe it is that does not have very dramatic architecture in the city - believe me 'eye candy' goes a long way in voting. A pretty scene of bustling Hong Kong will likely score better than the same approach taken on the city of Rochester, NY or New London, CT.
The waterfall appears to be critical to the shot yet it is not illuminated enough (and neither are the rocks on either side) to really drive our eyes to them in the image. Some spot lighting or light painting might have worked for you.
Also, the contrast of the lights to the darks is not very dramatic - boosting the levels up and brightening the brights would likely increase the wow using a levels adjustement.
Finally, I wonder about the structure in the lower left of the image (bridge?). It seems to block our eyes from getting into the image and moving around. That horizontal line stops my eyes cold and leaves me no place to go.
It's a good shot and you should be proud of a great image of a great old city. I hope it helps.

I think you should keep a watch for a gorgeous sky and go back and re-photography. Beautifully streaky clouds in an evening sky would make this scene a winner, I'm sure! |

Just a thought.....
The fall area seems to be lit up with some type of lighting but not enough to cause washout in the shot. But the slight light creates a disturbance to the whole composition. If the crop had only the city and water above the falls I think this would have done better.
That's what I see, but be proud of your 6!!! It took me awhile to get my first one and now I crave it like a junkie....... |

Thanks for the replies. I did very little PP of this since it was Basic, but perhaps I should go back and review some of the things I can do to whiten the water and the rock wall on the right. |
