You have just described my image...but why the hate for us deconstructivists? I wanted to create an image that was a big middle finger to the world of color. Don't subjugate my postmodernist discourse with your sophmoric, intellectually sterile grand narrative conceptions of photography!

i'm right there with you.
taking so much care to be sure not to be DNMC is taking the fun out of DPC for me.

See, and I look at it the opposite way. The whole point of this website is to CHALLENGE yourself. It would be boring and less fun if it were just a constant free study competition. I think really challenging myself to come up with something that solidly adheres to the challenge topic is what is making me a better photographer and a more creative person. I'm a great photographer when I stick to the subjects that I'm comfortable with and I could probably shoehorn those subjects into most challenges if I tried hard enough. But forcing myself to step out of my comfort zone and try something new so that it fits the challenge without worrying about it being a shoehorn has probably done more to improve my photography skills than anything else. |

I didn't take point as literal but did feel that most of the background should be one color and the subject another. This could go on in discussion ad infinitum.

i actually agree with you on this point to a large degree. I'm referring to being extremely literal. I took the definition of point to mean "spot" of color rather than "pinpoint" of color. my entry this week seemed clearly to meet the challenge before i entered it. so that settled in my mind i focused on the technicals. i spent lots of time on the lighting, clarity, composition and in post proc. took extra time to make sure it was clean and perfect. And although my original looks like i may have been desaturated to highlight the color, i actually took steps to insure that it wouldn't be perceived that way so as not to violate the challenge description.

Gotcha. I definitely agree that this challenge was confusing and open to different interpretations. I'm intersted to see who ends up winning because everyone seems to be voting with a different idea of what the challenge was supposed to be. I think we should all just call this challege a wash and never speak of it again. :) |

If I actually vote this time around, I'll be using "spot" as a guideline.
I find your description of what you did to get the shot interesting, because that's what I would typically do. I took my picture because something caught my eye and I took a few shots - the challenge was nowhere near my mind. A half hour before rollover I went through hundreds of pictures to see if I had anything worthy for the challenge. What I wouldn't give for another 5 minutes of pp or better yet a reshoot!

I totally agree with this.. I took it as it meant that your subject needed to be an obvious section of color as opposed to the background.. Not that it had to be as miniscule as an actual point, but there needed to be a difference in your subject and it's background.. Some of these shots have 8-10 different colors in them and don't seem to have any specific color direction.. But, some are very clearly trying to direct the viewers eye by using color and I don't think those should be DNMC.. That's just how I'm voting.. |

Some of the posts and difference of opinions about what the challenge means almost scared me off of making comments but then I thought better of it and am going to try to comment on as many as I can. |

I did not start to well, but now in the early sixes, and a favorite, which really pleases me. A feel we have as nice number of very pleasing images that suit the challange, and some that that are questionable. All the best everyone, and looking forward to seeing the result..... |
