What do you wnat to use it for? I think that the SB800 and AB800's are in a totally different leagues powerwise. In order for the SB800 to make any difference, the AB's will need to be powered waaaay down and the SB way up. |

Yes. I use my SB-600's with my location strobes.
Depends on what you're going to do with them though.

Yeah you can.
All the Alien Bee's have built in slave receivers which will trigger the strobe when they are hit with either the flash light or with the flash signal.
Built in Slaves are very accurate. The only thing that throws them off is on board camera pre-flashes and in some cases slow sync speeds with the flash.
But you will be fine with an SB-600.
Best,

If you want to use the SB-800 off camera and have it be triggered at the same time as the AB's you need to set it to SU-4 mode and it will work as a slave. |

Optical slaves are limited by line of sight, distance, and ambient level of light. There are plenty of situations where they work fine and a few workarounds to make them work better, but I wouldn't call them "very accurate".

I was targeting that in more of a studio environment. When you just have a couple of strobes set up, the slaves work fairly well.
Though you are right with the limits and certain situations where they can have some problems. I do apologies for not being clear.
Cheers.
