As some people are fairly anal on checking EXIF data here - anyone else noticed that NeatImage completely removes the EXIF info??

I presume I'm ok submitting my NeatImage'd pic, even though it's got no EXIF info? (Obviously my original does.)

Paul,

As long as you keep the original there is no need to have EXIF data on your submission. The photos come out of my camera at 2288x1712 pixels and 2.5 megs. Clearly they need some resizing which would also strip the EXIF data.

Thanks for the reply Trinch.

Actually, Photoshop 7 keeps the EXIF data normally, which is why I was slightly concerned about NeatImage.

The original EXIF data isn't retained after saving the image in any editing program, including Photoshop 7.

Ah original - of course you're right. PS can't resist having a fiddle. :-)

Every photo I upload to pbase has been resized, renamed, and saved in PS 7. The full exif is avalible for every picture I've uploaded but I didnt provide that information. How is this possible if every editing program removes the exif?

As soon as I save the image in photoshop the date in the EXIF data is changed to the date I save it. So the original date of when the photo was taken is overwritten.

Jasc Paint Shop Photo Album 4 will retain EXIF data. I am not sure but I think Paint Shop Pro 8 does also. Irfanview will retain EXIF at least thru permanent rotations, and maybe more.

I think what Kiwiness is saying is the actual original unamended EXIF data, with NO info changed.

Just to clarify my previous statement... the photos on my pbase account show the date the photo was actually taken, not the date that it was edited in photoshop.

In Photo Album 4 the date taken is not overwritten when you save an edited image.

I´d use PS 6 and saw my EXIF data with NIKON View 5. After shot crop and save the files and continue to see EXIF Original unchanged data in Windows XP file properties and Nikon View 5. But... I do not change the file. If I´d used save as... or cropt to new file EXIF goes out. You need to copy your files to a new place and edit then in the original files. I´d saw something about do not spot edit ou change color formats, this actions blows EXIF data too.

Strange. I just opened an original photo in photoshop and re saved it and the date in the EXIF changed to the exact time I saved it.

There is more than one date stored in the Exif data.
I found out the hard way while writing exif software :-/

What PS version? I don not had this in mind but... there is some EXIF treatment option in PS? Because PS had your personal EXIF headers that you can access with throught window title bar with right mouse button. When I saw this PS EXIF data I can´t see my camera´s data there.

The free version of NeatImage does not retain EXIF data, but according to their advertising, the purchased version of NeatImage will retain the EXIF data and will allow you to save the image in formats other than just .jpeg. Those are important features for serious users.

Okay all clear for me now. The date that the photo was last saved is recorded in the EXIF, along with the original date. Seems like the only difference, but from that we can see if the photo posted in cases of DQ request is original or not.

When I put my photos in pbase they have been resized, cropped, enhanced etc and the original exif information shows up.
