About the Canon Hacker's Development Kit
With the help of a free, open source project called CHDK, you can get features like RAW shooting mode, live RGB histograms, motion-detection, time-lapse, and even games on your existing camera.

Unfortunately it only works with Canon P&S's but fortunately for me I have an old Canon A60. The change is easily reversed by deleting a couple of files that you put on you memory card.

You can also add mini-programs one of them being a DOF calculator. (Sweet!)

...and apparently it doesn't work with the A60. Dang.
