I was wondering. If someone takes a photo in RAW+JPEG mode, and uses the RAW for their entry and they are required to validate the entry, can they submit the JPEG instead? Both are exact originals of the exact same shot. The only difference is one is 20mb and the other 5mb and has a few less bits per pixel.
Thanks :) |

Depends on how you have imported it onto your computer. If you used any software (incl windows in built import) it may no longer be an un-adulterated original, despite the fact that you have done no editing on it,as the software can add to the exif data. |

I wouldn't see how that would qualify as the RAW converter would involve steps that you cannot do with a jpeg.

I shoot RAW+jpeg and I have used the original jpeg as my validation image - as long as its the jpeg straight from camera and not the jpeg that you converted from RAW. Though there has been one time where SC did request the RAW. |

Just out of interest Timfy, why dont you send the RAW file when submitting your original? |

With broadband it can take 5 minutes to upload a jpeg original, and 20-30 minutes to upload a raw. Dial-up would take 10-12 times as long.

Maybe broadband as offered in the former Soviet Union, but a 15MB file being uploaded via a typical 150KB/s connection will take under two minutes to transmit. Uploading atypically at 30KB/s, 15MB takes under ten minutes. |
