The “lost camera” thread made me wonder if I could add my phone number into the EXIF information, perhaps next to my name.

I do believe I have entered my owner name. I can see it on the EOS Utility thingy when I hook the camera up to the computer.
However, when I checked the EXIF info on some photos, I couldn’t see it anywhere.
I have checked via the Windows pre-viewer, via Photoshop and via Opanda. I know I have previously (different camera???) managed to see it, but I can’t now :-(

Here is a photo (untouched other than resizing) I uploaded if someone was willing to check for me.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for your help.

What are you using to resize the image? If 'Save for Web' in photoshop then that is probably where the EXIF is being stripped.

There is an option to limit the amount of extra data in save for web. Un-check it. That still may not retain everything. If not, then just resize and use save as.

No Colette, I made sure I was looking at a completely untouched original.
All the exif info is there, just not the owner name, which is what I was looking for.

I checked and couldn't see it in the EXIF. Normally on mine it shows up in the user comment section (under EXIF when checking under file info in PS). Hope this helps a bit.

If you want to add details such as the author and your phone number, just right click on the image->Properties->Advanced
Enter the information you want, and then hit "Apply".

Nope, I couldn't see it anywhere in PS, I only see my name when I look at the EOS Utility.

The idea is to have my name on every photo, done in-camera, not afterwards.
I KNOW I have previously seen it on every single photo's exif, and hoped to add the phone number in case I ever lose my camera.

On a related note, the Fuji S5700 has a splash screen that is customized by the retailer to display their logo when turned on. I'm sure some other cameras have something similar. Might help get it back when lost or stolen, if the splash screen could be customized with the owners name and an e-mail. But I have no idea how to change the screen.

Hmmmmm....

When looking at the file using EOS Utility, what field does your name show in? It could be that Photoshop doesn't look at that info or you have to configure Photoshop to look at it. There's different sections in the EXIF.

I'll look when I get home tonight. I generally use Lightroom but I think I've configured Lightroom to add my name on import.

Karin,

I went searching and can understand why you can't find it.

1) You enter the information in the EOS Utility while your camera is tethered to the computer - you can add your phone number to the owner's name field there.
2) When the image is brought into Photoshop it's buried in Advanced in the File Info under
//ns.adobe.com/exif/1.0/aux/

How's that for obscurity.

Thanks for being such a good detective, but that is what I keep trying to explain (and obviously I am doing a lousy job of it).
I do believe I have done exactly that (enter the info via EOS Utility) because I know I have seen my name on exif before. When I hooked up the camera to the computer and turned on EOS utility, my name WAS there, yet I can not find it on any exif (including the spot you quoted).

However, now that YOU found it somewhere (where I still can't see it), I have decided that it has magically disappeared from my camera, and I will try to enter it again.

Again, thank you for your efforts.

Your name may also be in the Copyright section of the EXIF.
