Agreed. Although I though my landscape had a "mood", but the comments echoed what you said.

Did you set up a private Flickr group, or do we just add you as a friend?
07/02/2008 11:07:34 AM · #77
I agree about the mood, and that's something I pick-up on, but most people on DPC don't seem to see it.

I created a public "invisible" group and invited you.

Now for today's words of inspiration from Team Spiderman your captain:

Good Morning Team SpidermanJokers!!!
I hope everyone is looking forward to getting out and taking photos this week, let's make sure we get together via email/flickr/dpc and help each other. We want to blow the competition away!!!!!!
I hope everyone will check-in sometime today so that we can't keep up to date.

Thanks,

PennySteve

If you don't already have one, go create a free flickr account then add me as a friend (my account name is therealsocalsteve and my email is steve@otms.com). Once you do that I'll add you to the group. I think that's how it works. Let me know when you add me, I'm not sure if I'm notified or not.

I sent you an invite Steve. My Flickr name is Storm Feather.

My last free study took a beating as well when I was expecting 5.5-5.8.

Thanks, although the comment didn't show up. I guess with mine I was more captivated that I caught the rainbow effect on the eye than everyone on DPC was. I like your free study entry, but I do have to agree with Steve on the mood point (for both our photo's). Sometimes it seems people need that aha or wow factor popping out at them, where as I can enjoy a picture for it's simplicity as much as for it's wow factor too.

I just love your "original" words of inspiration :). I'm hoping to get out today or tomorrow to capture some landscapes. I'm just hoping the skies will clear up a little bit for me, it's been warm and no rain lately so it's a bit hazy out.
07/02/2008 02:32:46 PM · #82
Dawn - it gets really hazy here too (but that's smog). You might try going out more in the "golden hours" - 30 minutes before or after sunset and the same for sunrise. Mist/fog in the morning on a landscape can make for a good shot, for example:

Or the haze over something that looks "hot" such as arid land or city can add to the shot.

Just caught this guy:

at the park across the street. To bad it does nothing for me on challenges. Handsome fella though.

You should do another tree shot - that was cool.

Tree? uh...which one? haha

Ok, looking at your portfolio again I realize that had to be the most inanely unspecific request ever. I meant this one:

For the Landscape challenge? Hmmmm, if you could help me think of a creative enough approach to it, maybe so...

It's good as it is.

Hi All - I've posted a challenge candidate to the Flickr group pool. Take a look and let me know what you think (and please do the same)!
07/05/2008 05:29:27 PM · #90
I'm down to two photo's for the landscapes challenge. I uploaded them to the pool. They are both re-edited after reading dtremain's comments. I straitened a tree in one to make it more level and tried to make the colors pop more in both.

sorry i havent been here, anyways, i cant shoot that location i shot for the image you requested Steve, i would have to clone out a house, and its only basic. But im glad you like that photo, i do too. Anywho, i added you as a contact on Flickr Steve.
Im hoping to go tomorrow to the cemetery to get something for landscape or weathered, i dunno, we'll have to see.

Picked the photo I'm going to enter, just haven't picked the edit. There are 3 in the pool, let me know what you think is the strongest one.
07/06/2008 04:59:27 PM · #93
uploaded two edits into the pool, go drop by and see which you like

OK Jokers...Major computer meltdown. I'm using my phone to post this, but no photoshop on my phone. I'm getting a new puter tomorrow, and as long as I can get everything figured out and playing nice with Vista I should be in good shape. I WILL have something for the challenge, but it may have to be a landscape, and an urban one at that. I really wanted to stay away from that as we just had a landscape challenge, but I'm running out of time and options...

Wish me luck!

no worries Jake, kudos for you to sticking to submitting! Good luck to all those starting tonight!

Ive got a question about one of the basic editing rules:

"saturate, desaturate or change the colors of your entry, but no selections are allowed."

does this include only saturating specific colors(ie. i only want to saturate blues or something)?

Thanks!

Yes, you can do that, but it has to be for the whole shot, not just a selected part of it. If you desat blue, and blue is only in one part without you having to select it, you are ok. At least that's my understanding.

Thanks Steve. Also, I uploaded two shots to the pool. Please C&C. Thanks!

Pissed! Just wrote a big long post and then the stupid site was calculating the challenge results and the message was lost! That's the way my day has been going.

Shorter version of previous post.
Got new computer and installed Photoshop and my camera.
Signed up for flickr account and sent message to Steve.

Uploaded a shot for the landscape challenge into my workshop. I can upload it to Flickr when I'm added, or in the interest of time I can post the links here. Let me know! :-)

Back to computer fun...
