Sorry no pics.. just a story =)

Today I was driving around looking for a nice rural landscape.. and ended up at a lake. Well..it was soo nice out I decided to go home and get my fishing pole:) I was fishing for catfish. The first two hours not a dang thing. Then a few bites the next hour. Then finally I caught one.. he was massive!! about 6 3/4 inches long.. about 7 1/2 ounces. $$ well.. I know about catfish and you gotta be carefull with them, I picked him up.. had a good tight grip under his fins. then BAM! he squirmed around and stuck his fin over an inch deep into my hand. wow! such pain.. and blood! eep! I was alone, so I paced around for 10 minutes trying to figure out what to do.. I was in soooo much pain and no first aid kit.. not even a towell or napkin. Finally the pain eased a little and I washed it in the lake, packed up and headed home. Anyhow..I got it all cleaned up.. it's pretty swollen and still stings but I'll be ok.

Lesson learned.. be damn carefull with catfish, I've heard stories, but I didn't realize how serious it was untill it happened to me.

Sorry to hear about the stabbing!

This guy was a little over 30 inches long and over 30 lbs. (I didn't catch it, a guy I work with did out of the Red River in Shreveport)

LOL, I refrained from making that comment, so I'm glad you did. ;) Catfish are deceptively dangerous, but they taste good.

make sure you see your doc if it gets hot and red! you may need some antibiotics.

lol.. The size thing was a joke. Two weeks ago me and 2 freinds went out for 3 hours and brought home 54 catfish between us all.

It was actually a little less spectacular than last year. Still a good trip.

Apparently there was a freeze in early April that set things back and there were not nearly as many sunflowers. I think a lack of rain may have had something to do with it also. I went out to the base lake about 7 and then went on over and met with the Shreveport Photographic Society at 9.

Yes.. at first I thought part of the bone from the fin was broken off in my hand.. but I'm keeping an eye on it. I won't hesitate to go to the doctor.. I don't wanna lose my hand from infection. It was a really deep puncture.

Being that I'm in the plant business I know about the freeze..however it wasn't that bad, very mild freeze.. Last years freeze on easter was bad. So if they had a good crop last year..then they can't blame it on a freeze this year.

I don't even remember it getting that cold, but I don't pay that much attention to the weather since I left Limestone, Maine. It was just a bit chilly up there!
