I just looked through the 'Heavens' challenge entries. Without pointing fingers, I would just like to say that it is quiet annoying that certain individuals score well on a certain entry and then re-submit essentially the same photograph with the same subject over and over again. Com'n...Is it really all about scoring high on DPC and collecting ribbons? How about some originality and creativity?

Well, the initial pair of 3's on my entry in that challenge indicates that originality is not rewarded with high votes. I appreciate what you are saying though, and can think of a couple of examples right offhand.

You're more observant than I am, because I don't see any that I can be sure who shot it.

I suppose I should clarify that I meant some entries from past challenges where I know someone entered the same winning scene photographed whenever it meets a challenge theme. I suppose its not much different than duplicating someone else's winning shot.

If a certain element or subject works for the photographer, why shouldn't they use it?! DrAchoo uses the natural beauty of the Northwest US, timfythetoo uses his family very often in his shots, hotpasta uses the sea for his, etc... Why do these photographers do this? They like the elements and subjects, so why come down on someone for using the same things over and over?? Really, whoever the person is that you are pointing out(and I think I know who it is) is just taking pictures of someone or something he or she likes. I do the same.

I think when it comes down to it, we all take what we have and what we see.

I doubt that many people would be really be annoyed that Ansel Adams took more than one photo of Half Dome or other places in Yosemite.

Every photog has a style, and some are just more focused on a particular subject than others. Forcing a photog to change their vision up to avoid annoying someone doesn't quite seem right in my mind.

Hey trev, just noticed that half of your last 10 entries are motion pans of transportation (cars or bikes)... just sayin'... :)

Sorry, but I don't think you get my point.

I only see one image that I could attribute to a certain photog and all I got to say is SO WHAT! It is a great shot and I liken it to those crazy Icelander's, If you got it flaunt it. Don't be a hater redirect your disdain and shoot a ribbon winning image. If you spend time thinking about someone else's image you are not focusing on your own.

Peace

My point is this. Say you take a picture of Mt. Rushmore and it does very well. Great. You then re-submit virtually the same or very similar image again and again of the same subject taken under nearly same conditions. And then you do it again. If everyone did that wouldn't it make DPC a little boring?

I am not talking about technique, or landscapes, or Iceland, or hillarious timmythefoo-style photos which by the way I always rate very highly.

For example, someone mentioned motion panning. That's a technique, right? I am not talking about that. I am talking about the same subject/condition, etc. For example, submitting photos of the same person, with the same exact facial expression, wearing the same or nearly the same thing. Sure it's your right to do so. But I just think that it's almost like a disservice to the community and the voters. I mean how hard is it to think of something new to take a photograph of? If you want to use the same subject. Fine. But at least change things up a little. Maybe another expression? Maybe another outfit?

It's actually all timfythetoo's fault. He is pure evil. He should be DQ'd - not his images - those are great - but he really needs to be stopped....

You misunderstand me I said I liken it too. I know the shot you are talking about and I bet I know the photog you think it is. However there are many photogs that live where it is I think you think it is and to attribute it to one person is nye impossible. If it is your guy then again I say SO WHAT! If I had the opportunity I would shoot that location until I started getting 4's.

grandwazoo, actually, the photo I had in mind was a photo of person, not a location.

LOL then 10 bucks it is my highest rated image in the challenge. :-P I still think I know and really man who cares. I dig that it is frustrating but even I have done it. Sh*t I stone cold rip off images and enter them (Always giving credit) you have to use what you got. I don't have the luxury of the talent pool that kiwiness and Pedro have so I make do with my girl. I understand where you are coming from but you gotta do what you gotta do.

I only recognise one model and it's done by someone who's never ribboned.

But if someone has a strength in a certain area what's wrong with them using that? Should they ignore it in favour of things they're not good at?
I'm not about to tell Bear that he should be shooting portraits instead of landscapes because he's good at landscapes!

I have actually had people suggest that to me recently.
