I did a quick Google search and checked out a couple sites, and it doesn't look like there's a set release date :/

Sorry. I'd give it a month or two, though.

may just have to wait n see. Maybe i should just step to the 580ex II, wonder if I'll really need that extra power.

It's always nice to have the extra power if you need it, being stuck with the power of a 430EX you can't just jack it up, but if you have the 580 you can scale it down. That said, I've got the 430EX and it's great but sometimes I wish I had the 580.
