I added some more flood pictures if anyone's interested. If you are here's the link Flood 2008
The one that says Kirby cabin is ours. Looks like it will be one hell of a mess to clean up after!

I have looked at your photos at the link, and they show what's going on much better than most news photos. I am glad that it's not here.
I also live a block from a river, but I think that the last flood was in 1925 or about then. The river is like a big canal now for the most part, with locks and a levee around the big lake in mid state.

I'm going up in a plane on Saturday to take some pics, does anyone have some good advice for me, I've never taken shots out of a plane.
I did find some helpful info here. Any other tips would be great. We're going up at 4pm so it won't be direct sunlight, thank goodness.

That will be a great opportunity to get shots to remember. The only things that I could think to add to what I said in the earlier thread would be to use a cloudy day white balance or set your camera to higher contrast to reduce haze toward the horizon if you are at altitudes over 1500 ft or so. Another would be to make sure that the camera isn't touching the aircraft while you are shooting, because of the vibration of the machine. Stay safe, and don't be nervous about the images or the flight. The images will be better than you expect, and you will not fall out if you have your belt on.
This is about 1/4 of an image that my oldest son shot with my little Fuji A820 point n shoot while he was flying the plane a couple of weeks ago.

Relax and focus on getting the interesting shots and you will do fine.

Thanks for the advice! I'm not nervous about the plane ride, I've been in plenty of puddle jumpers in my lifetime. I've just never taken pics while I was in one.
I was thinking that I would take my p&s along too, it sure comes in handy! I used my p&s for a lot of the shots that I took today, I didn't want to risk dropping a lens in the river! We had coast guard clearance to be on the river, it's closed, and we could not create any sort of wake, so we were basically putting the whole time. Putting in a boat causes a lot of shake/vibration, maybe it's similar to what it will be like in the plane.
