Ok I'm trying to upgrade my crappy phone to a blackberry pearl. I have T-Mobile and already have a plan with them, but the phones are pretty expensive within the store. I went onto Amazon.com and it says that it's a penny but only if you buy it with a new service plan. So I either want to A) get a new servive plan (but can I even do that if I already have one??) with the new phone...or B) Just buy the phone for more money, but how do I even do that on Amazon??

help?

I've bought several phones online, from other vendors.

I just replaced my wife's prepay verizon phone by purchasing a used (but excellent condition) one from ebay. Got a great deal from a good seller.

I did the same for my daughters prepay plan about 6 months ago.

At least with Verizon, you just have to make sure that the phone isn't on a stolen list. The only real way to do that, is to buy from someone or somewhere where they have a good rating, and you get some sort of money back guarantee if it won't activate.

Now with T-Mobile (I have t-mobile prepay), it should be even easier. All you need is a new or used GSM phone, and then you remove your SIM card, and put it in the new phone. And then you are in business.

I swapped phones with my father the last time I visited because the numbers on my phone were bigger and he thought that would help him. All we did was swap the SIM cards. Note that we live in different states, but your identity goes with your SIM card when you swap.

I even learned a trick at the t-mobile store where you can have your numbers in your phone transferred to storage on the SIM card, so when you swap the cards, the numbers go with it. (The down side of this was that multiple numbers for the same person were stored as separate people with the same name on the SIM card.)

ok thanks, but what should I do to actually buy the phone?...because on amazon it won't let me even buy it without first buying a new plan. Can I buy the new plan along with the blackberry and then just cancel my old plan when it gets delivered (like Amazon recommends) and can I even do that if I'm under contract?

I would be very careful! you can end up with a huge cancellation fee!

I always buy my phones from Ebay. for some reason, I break my phones all the time, so I buy them from ebay. I always look for ones that are for my service provider, then when I get it, I put my sim card in it and voila!

do your research even before buying from amazon!

I have a blackberry pearl(t-mobile)

I am NOT impressed with it, the first one broke ( i did nothing to it didnt drop it or anything) they sent me a new one, and the only way I can talk is if I put it on speaker, the reception is BAD, I think I would rather use a payphone than my phone

Once you decide on what phone, just do an ebay search. Buy from someone with a 100% or 99%+ rating to be safest. And ask questions before you buy.

Here's blackberry pearl, for example, on ebay.

You can then filter by service provider.

To the Canadians out there that might want to purchase a phone in the USA, be warned that some (if not all) will not work in Canada, or at least that is what the service providers will tell you. There are apparently people who can enter the appropriate codes but that information you would have to seek out from someone else.
