If this works it'll make my summer - I live essentially in a swamp - not fun. |

Back in Brisbane (the place we normally call home), we have mozzies galore!
One year, we bought a battery operated gizmo that promised to work with sound (something about imitating the noise of a male mosquito which the fertilized females don't care for anymore).
I was the guinea pig sitting in the backyard being eaten alive by them (they don't like my hubby as much as they love me) to try it out.
Hubby is an engineer.... he tested the gizmo to make sure it really DID make a noise, then he twiddled endlessly with the frequency. All to no avail - dozens of bites later, I gave up and got out the spray, instead :-(
Just in case by some miracle your version really does work, please let us know! |

So what's the verdict? Enquiring minds need an update! |

I am sorry to inform everyone that at 7:13pm Rino63 attempted to repel mosquitoes around his home and instead angered them into a massive cloud before being carried away. :( |

I think it's only meant to be effective indoors anyway. Personally, I'm a non-believer. My mother has bought dozens of electronic gadgets to keep the mozzies away. Nothing worked. My advice to her is "Remember the Aeroguard, and avagoodweegend" ;) |

Reading through part of that thread, it seems the problem is that MP3s cut out the ultra-high pitches we don't need but are the ones that affect the mosquitos?
We don't have much problem here, but when in Edmonton I discovered that the "Off" lantern really does work and doesn't smell vile. We'd watch the mozzies zero in then, at about 6 feet away, seem to bounce off an invisible wall. They'd try a few times then give up. I've never seen ANYthing work that well!

I have a plug-in thingy that's supposed to annoy bugs & rodents. Rarely see a bug of any kind in my house & never seen a rodent. That doesn't mean the thing works, but since I can't hear it and its doing me no harm, I leave it plugged in. lol

The best way I've heard to stop swarms of mosquitoes is a C02 trap. I think they run about $500 last time I looked, that was many years ago. They can have a range of up to 50 feet around them. They mimic the heat, smell, and C02 emissions that mammals give off, the little buggers fly into a trap area to reach it and are unable to leave, muhahahahaha.
There is a church near by that has them spaced about every 50 feet near their parking area for some reason. |
