Yesterday afternoon on the way home from picking up my wife from work my car decided it wanted to run hot. First the air conditioners compressor stopped and was blowing hot air. As a safeguard when my car (2004 Jetta 2.0) runs hot the compressor will shutdown. I looked at the temp gauge and it was only a few clicks from the red. Luck was on my side, I was only a few 10th ‘s a mile from my house but by the time I go there I could here the water pump making a noise. So I parked the car till this morning and took it to the dealer for repair.

I have been having a few problems with the car in the last month or so but with everything going on with my dad I was unable to find time to make an appointment to have it checked out. The transmission seems to be doing funny things. Sometime when I stop at a stoplight I can feel the transmission go into 2nd gear but when I start back to driving it feels like it stays in 2nd and; you know the pulling feeling of not being in the right gear. And my gas mileage has dropped to around 16-18 mpg in town. Not good for that car, it should be around 24. On the highway I don̢۪t have that problem because I̢۪m not starting and stopping and the car feels like it̢۪s in the proper gear and I get around 33 mpg.

Well to make a long story a little shorter I took it in this morning and found out I was due for the 40K tune up (not covered by warranty) at a cost of $530 USD + any wearable parts that may need to be replaced such as belts, brakes, filters, etc. Since I was a walk-in with no appointment they told me it would be at least tomorrow before they would get to check out my car and I would not be able to get a replacement car until they find out what̢۪s wrong and if they are going to have to keep my car for a day or two. I know! They already have to keep my car a day or two so why not give me the rental car!

Now, in warranty, I am looking at being without a car for a few days, paying hundreds of dollars unexpectedly and all a week before vacation. To say the least my wife is pi$$ed because it cuts in to money saved for vacation.

OK – Of my soapbox! for now at least.
