about images of computer screens. So, I will be specific. If I take a picture of my computer screen, let's say with the screen saver going, even if it is accidental, or on purpose, just because it looks cool when I view the pics, is this legal to enter into a challenge? The image is purely of a screen shot.

The challenge rules state:

"You May:

include existing images or artwork as part of your composition as long as the entry does not appear to consist entirely of a pre-existing photograph in order to circumvent date or editing rules or fool the voters into thinking you actually captured the original photograph."

So, by taking a picture of a picture (even if shown on your computer screen) and submitting it to a challenge, it will most likely get disqualified as being made primarily or completely of another photograph or piece of work.

The answer is "it depends." What it depends on is whether or not it's apparent to the voters that it is a screenshot. If the voters can tell that it is a screen-shot, then no problema. If we feel that they cannot tell, then it will be DQ'd under the artwork rule.

Ok...let be more specific:

If I take a picture of my computer screen with the screen saver going accidentally and it looks cool when I view the pics after downloading, is this legal to enter into a challenge? The image is purely of the computer screen when the screen saver is running - nothing else. No you cannot/would not necessarily be able to tell it was a computer screen after cropping and resizing.

If it looks like a photo to the voters, but was actually a photo of a photo/monitor/etc., that would absolutely be DQ'd.
