| I finally was able to replace the Bigma I was forced to sell last year. I got a good price on a used one, so I also bought a 1.4x tele-converter for it, making my 500mm approx 700mm. I am so geeked, I can hardly wait to get a chance to shoot. Too bad I had to work today. |

...and the buyer is ever so grateful you sold it to him too because he managed to take a few shots with it including this one .
He is still practicing with it and hopes to get better with time.
Here's hoping you will soon be amazing us with tons of wonderful wildlife shots.

My first totally free day is a week (both the hospital and EMS) from this Sunday. It's going to be hard to wait that long. I heard there are some grizzly bears hanging around at the Eagle River Nature Center that I am dying to go shoot....as long as I find them before they find me. :P Note, these are wild bears, not fed or maintained by the park. However, there are a pretty pair of swans not far from my home.

| Did you use a teleconverter with it last time? I'll be interested to know how that works for you. |

No, I did not own the teleconverter at that time. I recently purchased it. The one problem I noticed is that it is not auto-focusing with the teleconverter on it. Not sure why, other than the lens is the non-DG version, and the teleconverter is DG. I was under the impression that the DG only meant the lens had the anti-glare and anti-ghosting coating to it. Maybe I am wrong on this. I'd like to know if any other owners of the Bigma have used the teleconverter and achieved autofocus. |

Max aperture is too small to AF with the converter on it would be my guess... You lose the one stop with the 1.4x on there.

Any aperture smaller than 5.6 won't allow AF with the TC attached.
With the TC attached, at max focal length, the max aperture is 9 (1 stop over 6.3). |
