This is an interesting story. I would like to hear what people have to say about this.
I have my thoughts, but I keep them until I hear it from everyone.

Running a car on water is not that new of an idea. What's prevented this from being feasible is separating the hydrogen (what the car actually runs on) from the water in an economincal way that costs less than the alternative, gasoline.

They didn't address this known problem. If they did, then that would be news.

On top of which, fresh water is a shrinking resource in comparison to the demand for it, planet-wide. The day could easily come when fresh water could cost as much (or more) than fuel currently does, just because of it's dietary necessity. I rather doubt we'll ever see mass-production of cars that run on water for this reason.

I totally read that title as CAT that runs on water! It took me a minute to think about how that would work and why anyone would want a cat that runs on water. It's obviously still too early in the day for me to be online. I'm off to find some caffeine...

The nice thing about burning hydrogen is that it is entirely environmentally friendly.
Oxygen is combined with hydrogen during the combustion which yields... water :)

The problem is as yakatme mentions. The energy required to extract the hydrogen from the water is more than what you generate in consuming it. And of course the energy for extraction needs to be created by other less environmentally friendly means.

They mention that the car can run on any water...fresh, salt, and even tea. Maybe it could run on 'brown' water from our household use.

I think I understood that it's not an internal combustion engine driven vehicle - the car is driven by electricity that is generated/created in the separation of elements in water. What drives the generator?

From the board with the link: "it could help reduce the amount of water on the planet and maybe stop us from flooding out our coastlines from global warming." Nothing like seeing the big picture, eh?

hmm a 40 word article on a car that runs on water, they must have left out the bs about it not being attainable for another 50 years or so because of blablabla , you get the message. ;\

A little better article that goes into a bit more detail:

Really? Every cat I've ever seen or driven runs on water.

Edit: I know "driven" isn't really the right word, but in the context of a car story...

Study science. Study chemistry. Study physics.

Ain't no free lunch. Figure it out! Hoax!!!

I've noticed milk is still under $3 a gallon - is there a possibility of a vehicle running on milk? Maybe with ice cream as a byproduct? Ok let's think this through... Hmph! I already see a problem - the ice cream would end up increasing the weight of the passengers, thereby having a diminishing returns effect on efficiency.

Back to my think tank...

I really think they need to find a way to run a car on feces. For one it is an endless commodity. Secondly it gives all us chubby cheekers an excuse for stuffing our faces..."I have a long commute so I have to eat a lot to fuel my car"

Yes... maybe they should invent one that runs on milk or a dish of cream. ;-Þ

eta: Oh, I see Art was in here earlier...
