Am not an Entomologist so can anyone ID this little fella please? It was about 1cm long and am thinking its some type of Stink Beetle?...

Nope. Box Elder

Definetly in the Pentatomidae family (stink bugs and shield bugs). Not sure exactly which one. Let me see what I can come up with.

I would say it is a Sloe Bug Dolycoris baccarums

I'd venture that its a member of the Mecoptera- maybe a Scorpion Fly although I think this particular one is native to the US.

Well, am in the UK so maybe a distant relation?

Yea, I am 99% certain its a type of Scorpion Fly, haven't been able to narrow it down any further. Got lucky with the Sloe Bug- apparently it appears in parts of the Atlantic Coast so it showed up in my USA guide.

Anyone got a good link to a UK insect site??

Thanks for the ID's Jeff, all these guys were shot within a square metre of each other, your back garden can be a good place to shoot!
