So I have 4 choices:

sleep locally with the rats
sleep not too far away with the drunk nascar rednecks
camp out
sleep a bit further away but still way closer than home

Ooooh... they've added rats now? Last year we had to bring our own.

I didn't have any service with ATT either

Good news is that it's raining right now. Don't want falls with no water ;)

Bad news is that it's supposed to be hot and muggy Sunday.

From what I see, about 90 degrees of hot and muggy... Not the best, but it will be cooler in the gorge by the water.

No rain is good, you won't have to worry about the roof leaking in those local roach motels. Of course if its really hot one would wonder about AC. Do they have it to go along with the UHF TV?

Hot & muggy is sort of relative when you're in the trees by a stream.

I live 2½ hours south of Ricketts, and we used to road trip there 'cause it's cool in them thar hills.

I am now officially in. Someone has to represent NY and clearly Nik nikolai1024 and Ryan digitalpins can't commit.

Not sure what to bring for the picnic but I will also bring an assortment of fresh genuine NY Bagels and cream cheese, butter, etc so everyone can have their morning carbs. Let me know what else you need or want me to bring.

Hey! What about me? I live in NY! NYC isn't the center of the universe, you know - the Southern Tier is just as NY! ;-)

Upstate is sort of Eastern Wisconsin. Have you actually traded that VT drivers license in for the NY one yet?

Does anyone know if the Ricketts Glen hotel has AC?

You shouldn't need it......you'll find that the night air there is plenty cool.

ETA: I do not know the answer to your question, though.....8>)

I vaguely recall A/C units in the rooms, but a phone call would confirm that. To Jeb's point, it's supposed to be in the 60's at night.

Does he have a camera and a penchant for weirdness?

My wife meets those qualifications for the trip......obviously.....she married me!.....8>)

I've been to Wisconsin - they have way more cheese than we do. (And I will never understand how we can be on the border of PA and still be considered "upstate.")

And no, I'm still driving under a VT license, so I guess that's technically what I represent... On the other hand, that means we're drawing DPCers to this GTG from one more distant state!

Hey....what's the matter with 'upstate'.....been watching this thread and wishing I could come....maybe I ought to just to truly represent UPSTATE NY

I have reported this violation to the NYS DMV. They will be sending an examiner over to you immediately to take the NY road test. Please be advised this includes special downstate hand signals that are not well known in rural areas.

Umm....

I live in a rural area and we know a few hand signals that you might not.

Can you throw a hatchet?
06/05/2008 03:20:12 PM · #98
That's exactly why those hand signals are not used upstate. The other driver often has a hatchet or more frequently a gun rack in the vehicle.

You better be careful, city slicker - you're about to come out and play in the country with us! Don't want to get the locals riled ;-)
