Not to make a big deal about it, because I respect the suggestion, but I think it should be voting as usual. Sean participated in scoring challenges! And I imagine he would be honored to know a challenge had been dedicated to him. Besides, practically speaking, I think changing things for one challenge would require too much coding (as we've been told is one of the barriers to a "no title" challenge, for example).

For those in the Southern Alberta area, the Water Valley Stampede is on this weekend. (Saturday and Sunday starting at 1 pm) With any luck it will be wet, muddy and crappy. i.e. Great weather to take pictures of cowboys.

p.s.: I used to race chuckwagons and its not fun being wet and muddy all weekend. It'll be nice to be on the other side.

=)

Not sure if I will have time to enter but I would like to. It's sad to see someone like him go.

I agree. We remember those who have departed but life still goes on. And knowing what this is for I am assuming people will do their best to get a great shot so I am looking forward to seeing what this challenge produces.

it's really difficult for me.... where I find something of the classic cowboy? I have an idea but can't found the "material" 3 days of unhelpful research.... even in some shop for children... :(

Just looked all round Berkshire, can't find a Cowboy!

No horses, no Sheriffs, nor Marshalls.

Another US specific challenge, will wait for something else.

There's cowboys all over the planet. And if you can't find one? Be one!

why not use his favorite film that he loved. Jame Bond, I mean it is meant to be about him, JB was one of them

Sadly the DNMC police would round up Jim B and throw him into the back of an old pickup truck...then beat him.

:(

remember items such as horse shoes / hats / rope (lassoo) / horses / boots / tools / buckets to carry water in etc... are all cowboy'friendly (that and a big-breakfast at an unreasonable hour so they can get out on the fields/trails rodeo etc...) guitars (for pleasure) harmonicas / other musical instruments - for entertainment around campfires / saddles and other tack equipment- old barns / rivers where horses are watered = all cowboy related and more and more and more...

someone dying so young -is extremely sad and I hope this challenge is participated in by those with deep respect for his life/photography/ and the subject =- its nice that DPC is doing this - if I have time to put a lot of thought into it I will...

infact.... i just bought a marshmellow shooter today.... ;) not that I have any bullets just laying around... hrm that scraps that idea... well at least there are barns around here i guess...maybe I can bribe someone into letting me take photos of their horse for this challenge...

ETA: sadly my cousin was found dead this morning unexpectedly = its very sad when people die young with no apparent reason and leave loved ones behind :(

just an idea but...perhaps the blue winner should send an 8x10 print to his family in memory and to let them know he wil be remembered.. ?

I could use some help here. I am a friend of the Matos family and would like to honour Sean by submitting a photo. I signed up just for this event, but don't really know how to go about doing things. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Photograph something representative of a cowboy this week.

Would be interesting to see how James Bond would fit in that theme.

Welcome, though sorry for the circumstances in which you've joined. Your tribute will add a lot to this challenge.

This tutorial will help explain the steps to preparing a photo for entry (though for this challenge the file size is different (720 pixels/200 kb). To upload the photo, just go the challenge and click on the submit photo link. You should take a look at the Advanced editing rules as well.

Hi James, welcome to DPC. Here is a tutorial on how to get a photo ready if you have photoshop. It should help you out. The guts of the tutorial is right, except now you can have your photo up to 720 pixels and 200 kb for member challenges. If you have a different program someone can probably help you out. Also look over the Advanced Editing rules underneath the challenge. If you have more questions feel free to send me a Pm.

Hi, James, welcome to DPC. There are many rules for submissions that can be hard to wade through. This challenge is "advanced editing" -- you should read the instructions for that and then check in if you have specific questions. There are tutorials on how to resize your photo to fit the required dimensions, too.
It's great that you registered became a member to participate!

EDIT: Wow, it looks like several others answered your question while I was busy typing. :-)

I think a free print of the top photo for the family is a great idea.

I am a bit worried about my entry, whether or not it is good enough, or I should go out and shoot again. Anyone want to see it and give me their opinion please??

Thanks guys, I think I am going to go to plan B. I am going to re-edit the shot and see if that works any better as well. Appreciate your suggestions!!

I have an idea but can't quite figure out how to execute it. Living in Texas, you'd think it wouldn't be a problem LOL

Just wanna be sure here. The voting in this challenge should be dictated by the description and not by what Sean Matos would have submitted had he entered. I just fear that "some" voters will scale their voting based upon his portfolio and that, to me, is wrong. I felt compelled to bring this up as I'll send some pretty sharp PMs back at the narrow minded commenters who go down that path. Nuff said.
