Yikes! Mac OS X Leopard mega-patch plugs 41 security holes
It̢۪s Patch Day in the land of Mac OS X Leopard.
Apple today shipped Security Update 2008-003 (Mac OS X 10.5.3) with fixes for a wide range of serious vulnerabilities that could put users at risk of information disclosure, denial-of-service and remote code execution attacks.

| I love my Mac, but there never was anything magical about the OS that made it invulnerable to hacking, always just been IMO that the market share of Apple computers is small enough to make it not worth the effort |

MYTH. There IS something magical about the OS that makes it resistant to hacking... it's built on UNIX. |

| I'll grant you that UNIX is a far superior platform to Windows, but I still contend that a significant reason for there being so few Mac viruses etc. is that malware writers are going to get a lot more damage for the buck writing code for a platform used by 90% of all users. If Apple had succeeded in becoming the dominant force in business and personal computing, you can be sure there would be a lot more problems, not as many as with Windows but a lot more than there are now. |

| What malware writer wouldn't want to be the first to put an actual, harmful OS X virus into the wild? These guys live for their egos, and there were plenty of OS 9 viruses when Apple had even LESS market share. |

| You're likely right of course. I've kind of hoped Apple would make some gains in market share, if nothing else it may spur writing of more applications for the OS, not that I need any more excuses to blow money :) |

I believe the current market share is 14% overall but 70% of high-end computers. |

I've seen discussion groups where there would have been a full-on PC vs. Mac flame war by now, probably helps that most people here are into imaging and probably graphic design, still the domain of the Mac :)

Nope. Has more to do with we have been there before and most DPC'ers are a polite bunch. : ) |
