my shutter button all ofa sudden today started to click when i perss halfway to focus, not like click off a shot it just clicks when it goes halfway, if i remember correctly before, it never did that or ever clickd for that matter, it feels weird any idea how it happened? wrrantyable?

It may be your lens getting focus. Try manual focus and see if it still clicks.

no its like the actual button, if i recall correctly to autofocus it always pressed down like smoothly, like you knew when it was half way, but no audible click now it presses a little harder and it clcks when half way

Sounds like something internal broke, I am no fix it guy but if the button is harder to press something is wrong and you should get it checked out before you damage the camera further.

is that warrantyable usually? i mean it is a wearing feature but its been about 5 months and 10 das since i bought it,so it hasnt had that much wear

I'm not a Canon user, so can't speak about warranties with any great accuracy, but I would venture to guess that damage of this sort would most likely be caused by a harsh blow to the shutter release button, perhaps from the side of the actual button. Is there a chance this could have happened? Given the circumstances, it sounds to me that the "symptoms" you are experiencing are less likely to have been caused by natural failure/wear, but at any rate it seems like you should try contacting Canon or a Canon certified repair service to get some real details/estimates.

I just got my 20D back from the shop. It had a similar feel to what you describe. I had 85K clicks through mine so I may have just wore out the shutter button.

I think there is a spring under the button that broke or got out of place on mine. I would half trigger squeeze it would obtain focus ok but when I took my finger off the trigger it would obtain focus again, and again and again (everytime I moved). The mechanism was something like $11 but I won't scare you with what the labor was locally.

Wow, that bites, six weeks? My first S3 Fuji caught fire inside one time, literally smoke came out when I popped the lens off. I had to send it to the Fuji repair station in NJ, but they had it all tricked out and back in less than a week, and, they gave me an exact to the penny estimate before operating on it. I bought a second S3 body on FleaBay for about $800 while it was in the shop for the same reason you want to get the coma. I was bonkers while without a DSLR in my hand. I wanted a second one for backup anyway, because when I travel, I want to have that insurance.

So...... I gotta ask what caused the fire?

The camera was dropped. I left the firewire plugged into it and picked up the laptop that it was hooked to so it was dragged off the table and hit a hardwood floor. Something tiny, like a screw or something came loose in the prism area, maybe a rivet from the shutter mechanism. I think that it shorted out the tronix when it found the right spot to cause the most damage.
About 3 weeks after the event, it would lock up when cocking the shutter, and give an err message. The last shot, it was focusing, and I could hear it fizz inside, and the viewfinder got foggy. I instinctively quickly removed the batteries. When I removed the lens, the body was full of smoke.

They pack some white smoke inside most electronic and electrical deveices, and if you let that smoke out, the thing quits working. You then have to return it to the manufacturer to have fresh smoke packed into the thing to make it work again.

Long story short, it was about $400 US, plus shipping one way to New Jersey to have it repaired. That was Nov 06, and it is still going strong daily. The Fuji Pro service people are just great to deal with. Their service was exactly as stated, and they were very good with communication and with speedy service and shipping.
I hope that Jib finds the Canon people to be as nice, and as efficient.
