| You didn't mention which edition of Photoshop you own. Upgrade the camera RAW usually will fix the problem. |

| Also, sometimes you may have to "Import" rather than "Open" a file ... |

| I had the same problem. I found out that my editing software doesn't support RAW. I had to use the software that came with my camera to open the RAW files. Once they were open I could only edit them in lightbox, or whatever that's called and I had to save as a jpg to edit it any further in my editing software. |

That's bad advice. OP has PS, PS supports RAW, it's just a matter of getting the lat5est updates tot he software,as new cameras have new forms of RAW.

Is this true with PS Elements? I have Elements and have not been able to read RAW either. I can't say too much because I haven't actually tried updating Elements though after I installed it originally. Just curious, thanks -BB |

The new ACR doesn't support some older versions of PS so some new cameras might not be supported. I do believe that they have a work around that you can download that converts your raw files to a DNG that can be read then by your version of PS. My CS2 cannot read my G9 or 40D raw files but luckily my lightroom can. Here is the linkto adobe ACR page. per teh adobe page it states Camera Raw 4.0 and greater is not compatible with Photoshop CS2. |

The 400D requires CS3 to open camera RAW images. you can download the DNG converter and convert the RAW images to DNG to open them with Adobe Camera Raw 3.1(ACR). OR you can download Lightroom and just pull them into lightroom.
Your RAW images need to be opened with ACR 4.1. Adobe CS2 does not work with ACR 3.1

Lightroom can be a pain to get use to but once you do it is SOOOO worth the money. There is so many plug-ins you can use with it. If you do end up getting it let me know I can send over some of the extras I found over the years.
