while hiking or mountain climbing if you have a big pack on your back and need easy access to your camera?? ive seen some sort of thing you can buy to attach your camera to your chest or something without it bouncing around, anybody know what im talking about and what its called? or have any better ideas? |

I've seen what you are talkig about advertised, but I would still find that it would be in the way just as much as holding it in one hand. What I mean is that if you are hiking/climbing steep terrain and you absolutely need two hands to steady yourself, then I would think that a camera strapped to your chest would be in a very compromising position.
I have found that the Tamrac Velocity 9 works very well in this situation. It provides easy access to the camera while providing a protected place to hold your camera while you negotiate a particularly rough climb between rocks and trees.

REI hasthe LowePro Top Load AW chest pack. Is this the sort of thing you were looking for?
Photo net has a thread on bikibg with a camera and there is some crossover you might find useful. |

you have a canon, you could tie it to your ankle and it would be happy.... I use one of those retractable dog leases on mine so that it gets a taste of mother earth but will come to me when I need it.
gotta love rugged cameras |

Thanks for the link on biking with a camera. I wanted to use a bottle mount, but even my Powershot S5 is too big. I picked up a handlebar bag at REI today that seems made for the purpose and should make a good camera case on it own. |
