What sort of memory card are you using? It might be the memory card that's slowing things down rather than the camera - the difference is much more noticeable with RAW because the files are so much larger.

I use Sandisk Extreme III, they've worked well for me.

Kingston CF (Compact Flash) 4G never had to check before!

I shoot RAW on Extreme III cards, can get about a 20-30 shot burst before the buffer gets full. And that's at 8 fps.

Don't bother with JPG anymore.

I just shoot in RAW nowadays - I will generally only use a few images from the day's shooting so rather than being an inconvenience it really helps to have the extra control. There are one or two of my favourite images that wouldn't have been possible if shot in jpeg.

Really don't remember the last time I shot JPG, in fact I'm not sure my camera remembers that there is a jpg setting. It must have been when I last used the pointy-shooty thing - that's three cameras ago!!

I am still on the jpeg side of the fence. 99% of my photos are seen on the web only. My infrared converted camers (which I seem to use for about half my shots lately- it is fun to play with) does not do Raw but my D80 does. I have recently started using Raw in Photoshop for some of my processing and I find that while the results are better, it is much slower than the other (layers) processing.
