Would anyone mind giving me some suggestions? My head is SPINNING!!!
I am looking for a pocket-sized camera that takes great video and pictures. I have a Canon 300d, 20d, and S3....so I am thinking I'd like to stay with Canon. However, they have SO many options with Canon alone, that I am having a hard time keeping them all straight!
Here is what I am looking for:
-it has to be small. I need something to fit in my pocket.
-at least 8 megapixels
-is capable of taking great quality video
-can record video as long as there is space on the memory card (vs being time restricted)
-uses SD cards
-has a 2.5" or larger LCD
-has image stabilization of some sort
-has face detection
-has an optical viewfinder as well as the LCD for those bright sunny days
-has some sort of optical zoom. The longer the better
-is capable of capturing images that can be photo-contest/DPC worthy. (in case I don't have my big camera handy)
I will primarily just be using it in Automatic mode
just a small list of requirements....
I'd appreciate if anyone can give me their feedback!
Jenn :)

You didn't mention price range. The Powershot G9 has a good rep, but the price is close to an entry level SLR. (Worth it from what I have heard, though.) If looking under $200, I have also heard good about the Powershot A720 IS

I was actually going to buy an A720 IS for my mother since it seemed to be the best cam near that price, and if tog would buy it you should too!

I have just been looking into the same for my son who wants something small. Have narrowed it down to two cameras and both are Canon. I'll give you the Amazon links so that you can read the reviews. Hope it's helpful for you:
This one covers all your points:
Canon PowerShot SD1100IS 8MP
Canon PowerShot SD870IS 8MP

Be careful to not order that pink one for your son. |

If you want all that in Pink: click.
Edit: Oh, haha, it's obvious I'm awake for only 5 minutes ;)

I'd like to stay under $350 or so. Hard to justify spending more when I have all the L glass and 3 other cameras...LOL
Thanks all...
Jenn :)

motherlee has the Canon A630, it is older, but a great little camera. Uses SD and SDHC cards, 8 megapixels and a reasonable zoom.
Good value, I guess it can be picked up for $200ish.
PS, I admit to using it sometimes:))

Thank you all for your help. I went ahead and ordered the 1100IS...in PINK! The NEX had one and I played with it for a few minutes. WOW, it is a huge improvement over my S3 when it comes to focusing and and stopping motion!!! Those little things have come a long way over the past 5 years. I can't wait to get it. The NEX only had a silver floor model so I ordered mine for $212 TOTAL after a coupon from Circuit City.
Does anyone know how the video quality of the 1100IS compares to the S3??? I am pretty clueless when it comes to the video portion of the cameras.

I think it works great, though I am not familiar with the S3. I bought it to stick in my pocket when hiking or during bike rides.
Great little camera. Light as a feather, really easy to use and takes great shots...you will love it.
I did not the pink though. :)
