ok, this is just a quick review of the above.
If your like me and a little lazy then this is the monopod to get!
I was out with Talj last weekend and we 'happened' to pass the Warehouseexpress showroom (ok, so a slight detour) and I picked up this baby. When I say its for the lazy I really mean its for the on the move fotog, for those of us that are dynamic and constantly changing perspective/position (please, no posts asking why I bought one).
Its long, not overly light at a few grains of sugar over a kilo, its not cheap, but why is is so good? Ease of use! I've been spoilt with the Neotec tripod and ease of use but the mono version is so simple to use, release the foot plate, stand on it and pull the leg to the height you require, want to lower it a smidge? use the trigger and lower it, a touch higher? pull it up a bit. I was on a hill when I first used it and was constantly turning, A 'normal' monopod would have meant I missed taking an oof shot of the action lol.
I also got a small head but may try it with my fluid head next time out - I'll give it a 9 out of 10.

| I want one of those. I have the 458B Neotec tripod and absolutely love it. Although most probably would not like the head I have (405 Geared) the combination is fantastic. |

| I have the tripod and the monopod, it's so fast to get into position. I use mine with the grip head - the whole set up can be adjusted with just one hand :) |

Yup, have the 405 on my tripod as well - heaven! you'll love the monopod.

I mentioned the fluid head as I have one already. Almost bought a grip head but went for the 405 geared head instead as I was wary of how it would cope with a chuncky 1D and 300/2.8 (and the 405 is spot on for landscape work). |

Well, a fellow 'gear head.' I love the pod/head combination and after a few days getting used to it (had it about a year now) I dare say I can position it faster/at least as fast as any other but with one big difference - accuracy!
The monopod is actually on my active 'shopping list' but have not decided what head to use with it. Hence, this thread immediately caught my attention.

Am sure you will love the Neotec pod Chris. I got a cheap 234RC for the tilt, guess I add onother above it and use that for landscape/portrait (lighter than a 'proper' head though maybe a little more fiddly)
*edited to add*
I don't think there is another tripod (nor monopod) as fast to set up as the Neotec.

Since I have had the Neotec and the few photogs that I shoot with locally have seen it - especially on locations like Tannery Falls or Moneybrook falls - 2 of 4 have purchased the same tripod. 1 has the monopod and one thinks we are all crazy for spending the money. However, he is always, and I mean always, the one who complains about not being able to put his tripod where he wants it. His wife thinks he is just a cry baby. However, all who shoot along the river - now three of us - with the 458B have never complained. Just very versatile.
I have always wanted a monopod for a lot of places I go where the tripod just isn't practical (Wlmstn. Theater Festival for example), and this is the one I want.
Will look into the head you linked. I don't need it for a long lens so does not have to support much and with the monopod I am not as concerned with the movement of the head as I am concerned with getting a steady shot quickly. For my purposes anyway. But you are 100% correct in your assessment - the Neotec system is fast. |
