Excellent!!!

My Fire Escape shot just hit the Hotness list. I have high hopes for that one.

I made all of you contacts that posted, hope I didn't miss anyone.

My only complaint about JPEG is that I wish it was run similar to the challenges here, where in that there is a submission deadline and THEN voting begins. A great shot may get passed over because it was submitted late in the voting (not that anything i've submitted has been great in anyway haha)

How can you judge how you are doing? What ratio of votes to yeahs constitutes as good?

I guess it's the 25% mark (or something like that?) beginning when you enter a theme. Based on initial views per member to "yeahs". So, if a member views an image over and over, it won't throw off the balance.

Right now I have 4 that are "hot" because I matched the themes better than when I started on the site. Or that the present themes, I had the ability to match. Quite the opposite of my DPC record. lolol!

eta: There's a forum for JPG on flickr. I think that question comes up often. You might want to check there for a more accurate answer than the one I gave.

The Creatures Theme might be up your alley.

I'm way ahead of you. ;) I saw they said "lean to the exotic" so I went with Mr. Salamander from the last macro challenge. He's got 36 views, 15 yeahs, and 6 favorites, but like I said, I have no idea if that's good or not.

DrAchoo , I love that salamander shot of yours....That's very good for the amount of views the shot has gotten.

I think "yeahs" and "favourites" are calculated but it also is down to a judgment call of the people running the site...

I submitted for creatures with this:
Cat

Pawdrix ... I knew that would get a hotness... its a great shot...

This one is really cute.

BTW, I need to make a correction...it's probably not views to yeahs but the total number of votes to yeahs. That makes more sense.

Doc, that's just under 50%. Is it in the "hot" folder yet? I'd be surprised if it weren't but there are 129 pages worth of entries. If you notice more than half of them aren't exotic so you have a better chance of making the top of the pile.

My image The Pitchman has 330 Views, 78 Yeahs with 30 faves. The views spiked by about 100 when I posted this thread but I'd bet those numbers pale to some.

As Iraklis said the final decision on what gets published is up to the editors and sometimes a jury may be involved based on the theme or sponsoship, if I'm not mistaken. The voting just helps them weed through the thousands of entries.

yelp.com is sponsoring the Favorite Hangouts theme and they may have some say in who the winners are.

Good Luck everyone!

My photo, click right here, has been on the hotlist (yay! yay!) and has 446 views and 115 yeahs and 32 faves. So crossing my fingers that it stays right up there. But I don't know tho if being on the hotlist necessarily guarantees being published.

I think basssman7 also has one on the hotlist as well. It would be cool to see lots of DPCers with hotlist photos.

I'd really like help with this JPG mag thing too. There's no real "community" there so I'd like some people to check out 3 photos I have going on.
Of coursde, if you like them, vote or comment accordingly. I'm not tryinh to say "Vote for me because I'm me" -- but I just want to get views and I know this community is great at commenting etc.

hangout entry

Found TyPE entry

Creatures entry

Thanks!

"Is there a place where everyone knows your name? Or where you feel the most calm or clear-headed? Or maybe just your preferred spot to be in when you're not at home or work."

For Hangouts, I don't think it's a strong entry. The comment you received is probably a common reaction.

The other two are fine and if the broken text was a metaphor for a "broken America" ...nice touch!

I'm siked and on a nice little roll over there...

CBGB's

I slid that one into the Found Type theme and just noticed that it hit the "Hotness" list. Now that's 6 in total. Even better if one actually get's published.

VOTE FOR ME HERE This has made it to the hot list and I would love your yes votes if you think the photo is good enough. Don't just vote yes cause I'm on DPC however, vote according to the photo.

Well, I have finally broken down and joined. Posted my Classic Soda Shoppe Banana Split to the Delectable (Food) issue for voting.

Now to go look up other members over there.

I had the very first image I posted at JPG published. You can see it here: //www.jpgmag.com/photos/351922. I would consider this lucky because they receive something like 10,000 entries a month and publish maybe 50 or so. I received $100 and a mag subscription. I don't think the editors pay too much attention to what is on the "hot" lists. My published image only had a couple of comments, favs and yeah votes. It depends more on how a given image fits the editors vision and feel for a story.

I currently have two other entries in the "night" and "faith" themes. I would appreciate you voting on them.
