Well, I am the suckiest one here in this thread. So none of you have anything to complain about. Never won a ribbon, and I did a count of scores that were 40% or below, and 41% or above. Out of 144 challenges (A few dq's) here is the results.

40% or under - 70 challenges
41% or over - 69 challenges.

I for one have no discrimination or ability to sense a good entry. So I enter, thinking it meets the norm, and then, it doesn't.

My current sepia entry I thought for sure met a definite appeal, sharpness, composition, tone, and all that. I awed myself when I saw the entry I decided on. Currently it is doing a whopping 5.1%. It is my dp history. So when I shared my many images with others, they told me I chose the wrong one.

The one I passed on I didn't even bother opening up to look at it. Well, I did that yesterday, and stunned myself. It was amazing with lighting and detail. So much for not opening ALL the images I take during a challenge. I had about 100 that I shot, opened up about 30 of them based on thumbs, and then decided on my awesome piece, you know the one getting 5.1%.

When I looked at the one that appeared overexposed and detailless and badly composed in the thumb, once I gave it some tlc, it shined. It would have been at least a 6. So here's some advice. Look at the images you shot, even those that have bad thumbs or you don't like, and you will definitely find some real surprises. Follow my flicker link if you want to see the one I did not enter.

Just have fun. Besides, I am the one that sucks at photography, and there can only be one that sucks at photography.

At dp? I think there is more than one. At least as far as dp standards. Nobody sucks at photography if they take images they love, or they can share with family, or they can look back at and remember when.

That string of 6's on your profile page tells me otherwise!

After very careful and very unscientific analysis, I have determined that a shot in the upper 5's (especially if it gets mostly positive comments) is a very good shot that simply did not have the universal appeal needed to hit a 6. My current Freestudy is one of those. Getting a good amount of high votes, but it's also getting enough low ones to keep it from flying.

My camera has a "suck" setting, and I seem to use it a lot accidentally. : )

Not sure if someone said it or not but I think you have 2 problems here.
1. WB. Easily fixable.
2. Type and direction of light. Compose shots to work with the light you have and avoid shots where light does not copliment your composition. Don't photograph things, photograph light.
