I just talked to my ins. and to insure my gear roughly 5k worth its only about $75/yr then again Im sure it would be a bit more for you as you are using it for work... but the nice thing about the separate ins is theres no deductible for me and Im covered even for accidental death of the equipment like if I fall in another glacial river or down a cliff lol. Ill be calling them to finalize it this week :D If I had done this last year before falling in the river then it would have only cost me about $75 rather than the $2500+

Yeah I have all my serial numbers and photos and stuff. I talked to my dad about insuring my stuff again today and I think we might go ahead with it. |
I'd definitely check whether it can be covered under your home insurance. It's really not that expensive if you can. The kicker may be that the gear is being used for a business for which you may need a totally separate policy. |

Im in Canada so it may be different but my gear is covered under my home ins but only at home, thats why like I said above Im getting the separate ins which will cover me where ever I go with my gear...

This is how it works for me:
I added the equipment to my homeowners insurance (as well as valuables like my wife's engagement ring). You will get the depreciated value for each piece you lose. It is relatively inexpensive and there is no deductible (It's under 100$ a year for maybe 8000$ or so I think). Apparently as long as you have roughly 3 years or more between claims, you should be OK - otehrwise they might drop you (according to my insurance guy).
If anything, at least you'll have some peace of mind.

If it were me, I'd think seriously about swapping the 50/1.2 for the 85/1.8 or 1.2... But either way, great news!

I have used 50mm for headshots for almost a year now and it is the PERFECT length, and considering I have a headshot business I felt it would be best to stick with 50mm |

Congrats on the new gear! I haven't tried the 50mm but you are going to love that 24-70. |

I guess on the cropped sensor that's true; it's about the equivalent of a 75mm on FF. But the 24-70mm is excellent at 50mm, was what I was thinking, and the 85mm is a little more reach and a killer sharp lens as well.

Well I really wanted the 50mm and its better for my budget and for my work, so I am happy :) i want to get a 100mm macro next so that I can get the extra reach that way |
