My guess is your shutter speed was too slow for a long lens.

Sorry to hear that Juliet :( am sure someone will come along soon with an answer. Just a thought, it wasn't having issues with the fence was it?

I would go with Scalvert on this one. Looks like camera shake, Most likely due to slow shutter speed. What settings were you using?

no it is on every single one and that one is the best of the lot

i could cry
04/24/2008 05:33:16 PM · #6
it was whatever P was bringing up

I take it that was the wrong one to use for this, I just have never had any problems with P before

Upload an example with EXIF data intact (i.e. straight out of camera)
04/24/2008 05:37:01 PM · #8
I found out what it was

They are ALL at 1/13

not one of them is different, they are all at that.

What would make it stay at that
04/24/2008 05:37:12 PM · #9
oh yeah, thats camera shake alright. Your shutter is too slow. try making your aperture wider and up the iso if needed.
04/24/2008 05:39:13 PM · #10
gosh 1/13th ummmm shutter speed priority mode does that.... does your exif data say p mode or tv mode?
04/24/2008 05:39:24 PM · #11
I don't know what would make it stay at that, but without a tripod you're going to get that blur @ 1/13, unless you have IS.

Edit: too slow!!

Another edit: use this as a learning exercise to learn more about your camera so this doesn't happen again.

OKAY, now I know what is wrong

it was pushed onto T

Craps sake I am so dumb sometimes

Rule I learned about cammera shake is that you can (in general) hand hold to 1/iso so if you're ISO is 100 anything below 1/125 shutter speed (as the closest shutter speed to 1/iso) and you risk shake when hand holding the camera.

eta: very general rule btw totally depends on your hands too

Of course it is too slow, but P alone shouldn't be giving you those speeds. It is designed mostly for handheld shots!!! Did you dial down the exposure compensation?

ETA: very slow!!

Thank you all for your thoughts

Again, it was all my stupid arse fault
04/24/2008 05:46:28 PM · #16
Might need to set the ISO to a higher number. To allow a faster shutter speed also if you want, you could set your camera to Ap Priority and make sure you are letting in as much light as posible and let the camera choose your shutter speed for you, Again a boost in the ISO would be helpful.

Well this is unfortunate Juliet but at least we figured out the problem. She was shooting in TV moved which specified that her shutter speed would be 1/13th of a second and matched whatever aperature it needed to properly expose the shot. Sad but it happens to the best of us.
Good luck next time!

I learnt a very very VERY valuble lesson today.

Doesnt matter how much excitment is going on or how many kids are screeching. Check your bloody settings, or you will have to deal with a daughter that is going to cry and pout all night at me. And I don't blame her one bit.

There was a HUGEEEEEEEEEE male Peacock preening at the zoo, and I got the most gorgeous shots of him struting about in full glory for his peahen.

Looks like a blob of blue.

Lesson Learned

At 50mm, I can hand hold shutter speeds as low as 1/8th

Not to brag or anything... ;)

Or no pulse...

@ 50mm, I can get 1/20 on about half my shots, by shooting left-eyed and jamming my battery grip into the bone of my left shoulder. Makes a pretty sturdy support system...
