Whats the difference between the Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM Ultra Wide Angle Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras by Canon

and the regular 18-55mm lense that comes with the camera kid?

I already know that quality of the lense is one of the features, but when it comes to wide angle ability. How do they differ?

The field of view difference is not going to be big. The quality, however, will (especially at the edges and especially at the widest apertures).
